Street lighting tobe improved
Plans are underway to improve thetown’s street lighting by theinstallation of over 16,500 modernLED units. This will result inefficiency savings of 73% inelectricity usage and a reduction of3,700 tonnes of carbon, 19% of theCouncil’s current output, increasingthe town’s already outstandinggreen credentials.

A programme of efficiencies has led to a saving of over £35 million since 2007 with afurther £36.5 million over the next three years and further £326 million by 2020/21.This has enabled your Conservative Council to sustain the current level and quality ofthe services they are able to provide for the community.
Bournemouth Council makes road repairs a priority
The extremely wet weather thiswinter has hit our roads andpavements. Cllr Cheryl Johnsonsaid, ‘Although Council budgets areunder severe pressure, we havemade sure that a further £1million isavailable for road and pavementrepairs. As a keen cyclist, I know theimportance of keeping them in goodrepair.’
LOCAL ROADS RESCUEDCharminster Road, Alma Road andHeron Court Road have all benefittedfrom the Council’s Road Rescue
initiative. Cllr Mark Anderson supports furtherlocal road improvements, ‘Lowther Road is thenext road to benefit from the investment of theRoad Rescue Fund in the near future.
A new App can now be downloadedfor reporting graffiti, litter, potholesor damaged pavements to theCouncil:www.bournemouth.gov.uk/mybournemouth. Stephen MacLoughlin said, ‘I
welcome this innovation; it showsthat our Council is forward-thinkingand keen to improve services forlocal residents.’

Families with young children livingnear Queen’s Park are now enjoyingthe new play area. Followingconsultation by the Council with localresidents, the scheme was designedfor fun and adventure. Cllr MarkAnderson, commented, “I amdelighted that local children areenjoying the play area. Queen’s Parkis a valuable, local amenity for thegrowing number of young families.”
GOVERNMENTACHIEVEMENTSCutting income taxes andfreezing fuel dutyWe are cutting income tax for 25million people – and lifting 2.4million of the lowest earners outof paying any income taxaltogether.We have cancelled Labour’splanned rises in fuel duty. Thismeans the average motorist willsave £11 every time they fill uptheir car – and means a motoristfilling up once a week is alreadysaving £360 a year.

Council recycling ratesamongst best in country
Your Conservative council is committed to aweekly waste collection and has attractedGovernment funding in excess of £20m toenhance the town’s recycling programme andthe building of a recycling facility. Free foodwaste recycling will be made available fromSpring 2014 minimising still further theamount of rubbish which goes into costlylandfill.
