Scripture says the Lord RepentsGen 6:6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it

grieved him at his heartEx 32:14 And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his

was destroying, the Lord beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand.

OT:5162 nacham (naw-kham');Strongs - to sigh, i.e. breathe strongly; by implication, to be sorry, Brown-Driver-Briggs - to be sorry, to console oneself, to repent, to regret, to

comfort, to be comfortedVine - to repent, comfort." Nacham apparently means "to repent" about 40

times and "to comfort" about 65 times in the Old Testament. Scholars assert several views in trying to ascertain the meaning of nacham by connecting the word to a change of the heart or disposition, a change of mind, a change of purpose, or an emphasis upon the change of one's conduct.

What Is Really Meant By The Lord RepentingJer 18:8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from

their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.


MacDonald’s Believer’s Bible CommentaryThe Lord’s sorrow does not indicate an arbitrary change of mind,

though it seems that way to man. Rather, it indicates a different attitude on God’s part in response to some change in man’s behavior. Because He is holy, He must react against sin.


Calvin's Commentaries The repentance which is here ascribed to God does not properly

belong to him, but has reference to our understanding of him. ……

That repentance cannot take place in God, easily appears from this single considerations that nothing happens which is by him unexpected or unforeseen.

The same reasoning, and remark, applies to what follows, that God was affected with grief.

Certainly God is not sorrowful or sad; but remains forever like himself in his celestial and happy repose: yet, because it could not otherwise be known how great is God's hatred and detestation of sin, therefore the Spirit accommodates himself to our capacity.

“A solution seems to consist in recognizing that the children were true human children of truly human fathers and mothers, but all were possessed and controlled by evil spirits. That is, these fallen angelic “sons of God” accomplished their purposes by something equivalent to demon possession, indwelling the bodies of human men, and then also taking (or “possessing”) the bodies of women as well…

“Therefore, God no longer allows them to roam about the earth like other demons, but has confined them “in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day,”…

This fearful phenomenon of demonic ‘taking” and “habitation” of human bodies has often been repeated since, though apparently never yet on the global scale which Satan attempted in the days of Noah.”

Above is known as the ‘Tyrants View’. (if sons of God are still men then why is there any need to think of angels from this passage?)

Note those that favour angels use 1 Cor 11:10 as support: Women should cover their head because of the angels.


4. We have a “Long-suffering” God!Joel 2:13 And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto

the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.

Gen 6:3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
