Your treatment plan will be individualized based onphysician’s orders. Once the treatment plan isdeveloped, regular updates and progress reports willbe provided to your physician.

Physical Therapy / Sports Medicine Therapy

Whether recovering from an injury, motor vehicleaccident, surgery, work related injury or chroniccondition, SJH RehabCare will work to help youachieve your highest level of functioning possible.

From the first visit, our therapist will determine thebest plan of care based on the physician's orders andthe patient's physical and functional needs. TheOccupational Therapist will then use the following toachieve the therapy goals.

• Range of motion exercises • Manual therapy techniques • Strengthening exercises • Custom splint fabrication• Fracture bracing • Function based activities (patient specific) • Physical agent modalities (heat, cold, etc.) • Job or sport simulation • Scar management• Home program• Any modifications necessary for activities of

daily living

LifeSpine Program

SJH RehabCare uses the LifeSpine program to treatmany spine related diagnoses. The program isevidence-based and standardized throughout all ourlocations. The LifeSpine program combines many spinetherapeutic techniques which maximize individualphysical activity and function with minimum pain.

Degenerative disc disease, sports or work injuries,poor posture and back pain or strain patients aregood candidates for this program. Treatment optionmay include:

• Strategies to decrease pain• Flexibility and stretching• Strengthening exercises• Spine stabilization• Soft tissue and joint mobilization• Biofeedback• Movement and positioning strategies• Aerobic/cardiovascular conditioning

SJH RehabCare Occupational and Hand Therapy

At SJH RehabCare our Occupational and CertifiedHand Therapists will use therapeutic techniques aswell as functional tasks to have the patient achievetheir maximum functional potential following injuryor surgery.

SJH RehabCare Certified Hand & OccupationalTherapists have special training in treating patientswith hand, sports and work-related injuries.Occupational Therapy has personalized rehabilitationprograms include but are not limited to:

• Hand and wrist injuries and fractures• Finger fractures • Joint injuries • Sports injuries • Tendonitis and arthritis of the hand, wrist and

SJH Kids RehabCare

At SJH Kids RehabCare we have a pediatric roomsdesigned especially with our young population inmind. The clinic includes a sensory dark room,equipment for vestibular and gross motor skills.

Our SJH Kids RehabCare staff consists for physical,occupational and pediatric speech therapists thatspecialize in the treatment of infants and children ofall ages with orthopedic, developmental andneurological diagnoses. Including, but not limited tothe following:

• Developmental delay• Brachial plexus • Cerebral Palsy

The Urinary Incontinence program is an excellentcompliment to standard gynecologic and uro-gynecologic care.

The LifeSpine Program helps to correct movementpatterns that may chronically irritate a condition.Patients receive education on ways to perform dailyactivities and reduce risk of injury or pain.

The Lymphedema Program – a certifiedlymphedema therapist provides a comprehensiveevaluation and treatment, manual lymphaticdrainage technique, multi-layered bandaging,compression, and education regarding precautions toprotect affected limbs and a home exercise programto maintain progress.

Vestibular Program

In our SJH RehabCare Vestibular Porgram, physicaltherapists with advanced training in vestibular andbalance disorders provide treatment to alleviatesymptoms of dizziness and vertigo and improvefunction. Common patient conditions include:

• Headtrauma/whiplash

• Stroke• Post-op brain tumor

or inner ear surgery• Disease or

inflammation of theinner ear

• Dizziness orimbalance

• Lightheadedness,nausea, disorientation

Women’s Health

Women have special health needs. That's why SJHRehabCare has developed programs that specificallytarget the needs of women.

The discomforts associated with urinaryincontinence, osteoporosis or lymphedema are alluncomfortable conditions women may experience atsome time in their life. SJH RehabCare has specialtyprograms designed to help minimize or even relievethe symptoms associated with these conditions.

Incontinence therapy - focuses on strengthening thepelvic floor muscles with Kegel exercises and use ofbiofeedback.

Osteoporosis - therapy to achieve posturalcorrections, activity modification and specificweight-bearing exercise programs to minimize therisk of fractures.

Edema - a certified lymphedema therapist will workwith patients to manage edema that results fromremoval of lymph nodes and to regain functional useof their affected extremity.

Programs designed for women in mind allowpatients to take a more active role in managing their

audiologic baseline testing studies, as well as localschool systems for enhanced one to one therapy notoffered in classroom setting.

Your First VisitPlease bring your physicians prescription fortherapy, your insurance card(s) and a list of yourprescribed medications.

Please dress in a manner that will provide you comfortduring your evaluation. Example, if you are beingseen for a knee injury, please bring a pair of shorts,sweat pants, etc. Appropriate T-shirts and sweat pantsprovide comfortable attire for your first visit.

Audiology & Speech LanguagePathology

Brain injury, stroke, mouth cancer, swallowing andneurological disorders, audiological and speechimpairments may leave some patients withsignificant deficits in their ability to speak andcommunicate effectively.

SJH RehabCare has licensed speech pathologists andaudiologists are specially trained and experienced toimprove speech function and communication skillsin adults and children.

SJH RehabCare treats patients to improve quality oflife that may have the following conditions:

• Speech and sound articulation dysfunction• Chewing and swallowing problems• Oral/motor issues• Oral cancer• Throat cancer• Vocal nodules, polyps• Dysphagia• Middle ear dysfunction• Tinnitus• Central auditory processing problems

The Speech Language Pathology departmentincorporates the use of Vital Stim® technique for itspatients. VitalStim Therapy® is a safe and effectivetreatment for patients suffering with difficultyswallowing or dysphagia. It was developed inresponse to the 15 million Americans living withdysphagia today. VitalStim® Therapy is a non-invasive,external electrical stimulation therapy cleared tomarket by the FDA in December 2002. The therapyuses specifically designed electrodes applied to themuscles of the throat to promote proper swallowing.
