Customised T-Shirt Free-arm Embroidery Hoop

Janome Embroidery Machine (we used MC15000)

Note: The above hoops maybe an optional purchase
for some models.
Janome Blue Tip Needle
Embroidery scissor or thread snips
Quilt Clips (optional)
Ironing Board & Iron
FABRIC & NOTIONS
Plain T-shirt or piece of clothing
Selection of Janome Embroidery Threads
Bobbin wound with Janome Bobbinfil Thread
Iron-on non-stretch cut-away stabiliser 4”x 6”

INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1
Iron stabilizer to the back inside of the shirt front,
in the position of where you will stitch your design.
For this sample, we are placing it centre front.
SET-UP
Have the embroidery design loaded on a Janome
formatted USB Key. Download link, if viewing
on your computer Flower & Cat DESIGN
You can also use a small built-in design on your
embroidery machine.

Step 2
Using your iron, press crosshair placement lines
where you would like your design to be.
For positioning centre front, fold in half matching side
seams and at the underarm level.
Step 3
Turn the shirt inside out and lay the stabilised part as
flat as possible on top of the outer hoop. Place the
inner hoop and template on top and position, aligning
the crosshairs on the template to those on the shirt.
Press the inner hoop into position and tighten screw.
Step 4
Remove the template and attach hoop to machine
making sure no excess fabric is under the hoop.
TIP: Use quilting clips to hold excess fabric out of the way if
required.
Step 5
To open the editing screen on your embroidery
Machine, press the [Editing Mode] key.
Step 6
Press the [Hoop Select] Key
Select [Free Arm Hoop] Key to select smallest hoop.

Step 7
Open the AOTM_cat.jef design file
or select your own small design.
NOTE: The machine will only show designs that fit into the
selected hoop.
Step 8
Move the design to the far left of the hoop,
press and hold the left arrow on [Layout] key.

Step 9
Press the [Monogram] key.
Select desired font.
For this project we used Gothic font.
Step 10
Select the [Letter Size] key.
Change font size to small.
Step 11
Type in the word Kitty, or your own text.
Then, select [OK].
Step 12
Position the text next to the design,
by using the arrows on the [Layout] Key.
Step 13
Select the [Group] Key
Select the [Group All] Key
Press [OK]
Step 14
Press the [Centre] Key to centre grouped design.
Press the [Group All] Key to release the designs.
Step 15
Select [OK] key.
The design will now be in the Ready to Sew Screen.
Step 16
Stitch out design in the desired colours, changing thread
colours when prompted.

Step 17
Pull excess stabilizer away from the back and trim
leaving approx. ¼” (6mm) of stabilizer around design.
TIP: If embroidery is going to be next to skin, you may
wish to cover the back of the design with a piece of no-show
mesh. Fuse into position following manufacturer’s
instructions.
Step 18
Turn t-shirt right-side out.
Press, if needed.
FINISH.
