Sawan

Accepting Divine Will and Order as being the basis of life, one’s soul, thus attuned to His Word, blooms like vegetation in rainy season, and one’s mind alerts the body to perform Godly deeds.

On meeting the true Guru, not only the worth of the Word, the immortalising Nectar, but also the worthlessness of following the path of Maya (all that engenders irrational attachment and

a sense of duality, and which leads one away from God) becomes apparent. The omnipotent, all-pervading and the infinite Lord that sustains even the lowliest life in this vast universe,

my soul too yearns to fuse with that Primal-soul through His Grace. Says Nanak, ‘Dear friends! I am forever awe-stricken by those who have realised the True Lord,

and I too seek His Grace and long for the revelation of His Word. The month of Sawan is pleasant for those who have adorned and attuned themselves with His Word

(Eternal or Divine teaching/message/instruction to mankind).

Guru Hargobind Sahib was born at village Guru Ki Wadali (district Amritsar) on 5th July 1596. He succeeded Guru Arjan Sahib in 1606, at the age of eleven years. Following the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Sahib, a change had taken place in the character of Sikh Nation.

There was a need to adopt both spiritual and political ways simultaneously, a character Guru Hargobind Sahib ji demonstrated by wearing two swords, one of Spiritual Power - Piri and the other of Military Power - Miri. Now the Sikhs became "Saint-Soldier."

Guru Har Krishan ji, the second son of Guru Har Rai Sahib and Mata Krishan Kaur ji, was born on 7th July 1656. He was of an age of 5 when he attained Guruship and hence the leadership of the Sikh people. In Delhi during a smallpox epidemic he served the sick without the thought of danger to himself. Even at such a young age Guru Har Krishan ji had a rare ability in explaining passages from the Holy Granth Sahib. Gurdwara Bangla Sahib stands today at the site of Raja Jai Singh’s bungalow, the residence in Delhi of Guru Har Kishan ji.

The Coach Trip on Saturday 15th July to Portsmouth will leave Brent Sikh Centre at 8.30am and depart from Portsmouth at 5pm.
