• Trainees/ non-trainees/consultants in emergency medicine, acutemedicine and intensive care

Learning objectives

• To increase awareness of mortality and morbidity secondary to chestdrain insertion

• To increase the awareness of use of appropriate imaging and limitationof conventional radiology.

• To provide hands on experience on both medical and surgical chestdrain insertion on state of the art mannequins.

• To discuss safety issues, learning requirements and number of procedureto be competent.

The practical workshops will cover:

• Needle decompression for tension pneumothorax• Diagnostic aspiration• Therapeutic aspiration• Seldinger chest drain insertion• Flushing• Practice in suturing• Chest drain removal

Groups for the hands on workshop have been pre-allocated. Please look at your badge to fi nd your group number. Each group should go to the following station:
