What is Sustainability?
Sustainability is the key to keeping Wentworth Point running for many, many years. Sustainability will provide a safe and environmentallyfriendly way to work for generations of the future.
It is important to consider sustainability while designing Wentworth Pointbecause Wentworth Point has a history of toxins and deadly chemicals.Everything we do effects things in the future for the next generations, sowe need to make sure that Wentworth Point is a safe place for futurecitizens.
Today we are beginning to realise that our systems are fragile andresources are decreasing. Current issues today are things like: increasedwater stress, rising sea levels, decline in agricultural activity, risks tohuman health, threats to ecosystems and biodiversity. We need to keepour designs sustainable so that we don’t add on to the already risingissues.

Sustainable Design Principles
Some sustainable design principles:
Minimal environmental impact
Reusable or recyclable
Energy efficient
Reduce waste and water consumption
Be sustainable long-term
These principles ensure that any construction that follows them
can be sustainable and good for the environment. Because
sustainability is so important to us, we have tried to incorporate
many of these principles into our own design for Wentworth Point.

Moderne Construire at Wentworth Point
Moderne Construire has incorporated many key design principles
to make our design for Wentworth Point more sustainable. In
terms of being energy efficient, our building are powered with
solar panels to use an effective and eco-friendly energy source.
We also have water tanks to reduce water consumption and
save water. Using rain water is taking advantage of the weather
and isn’t wasteful, unlike other house designs. We have also
carefully placed our windows to create some natural light as well
as heating – this mean we use even less power to keep our
buildings well lit and warm. We have also tried to keep the
destruction of nature to an absolute minimum whilst designing
Wentworth Point by incorporating nature within each design.

Sustainable Feature #1: Solar Panels
Sustainable Design Principle:
Energy efficient
Be sustainable long-term
What will they do?
Using solar panels will reduce our power bills, let us generate our own clean
electricity, will be low-maintenance once installed, and will also increase the
value of our buildings
How do Solar Panels improve our design’s sustainability?
Installing a solar (photovoltaic or PV) power system is a great way of capturing
the sun's energy to generate electricity for our buildings. It saves a lot of money in
the long run, despite being expensive to install. It uses the natural cycle of
weather to produce energy, making it sustainable and not harmful to the
environment.

Sustainable Feature #2: Water Tanks
Sustainable Design Principle:
Reduce waste and water consumption
Minimal environmental impact
Be sustainable long-term
What will they do?
Having rainwater tanks will allow us to catch a free supply of water and help
conserve Australia's scarce natural resource.
How do Water Tanks improve our design’s sustainability?
Rainwater is a natural and free source of fresh water. Harvesting rainwater in a
tank gives us a personal supply of water to use during water restrictions and can
help to reduce your water bills. This is a sustainable way to use water as we are
not wasting it.

Sustainable Feature #3: Recycling Plant
Sustainable Design Principles:
Reusable or recyclable
Reduce waste
What will it do?
A recycling facility is like a giant factory where the recyclable materials that are
collected from homes and businesses are taken to be sorted into different types -
such as paper, plastics glass and aluminium.
How does a recycling plant improve our design’s sustainability?
Having a recycling plant will mean that we aren’t filling up landfills with waste that
can be re-used or recycled. It will be better for the environment because there
won’t be as many plastics and other materials being wasted, and there will also
be less unneeded production of these materials.
