AWARENESS OF
ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
Pollution. You can't miss it, can you? It's everywhere... all over our planet. It makes people, other animals and plants sick or even kills them. It's even making the climate change.
Humans are the cause and humans will have to try and stop it... especially you kids, because the future is yours! Please find out what's happening that give you ideas to try and make things better for everyone.
AIR POLLUTION
The release of chemicals and particulates into the atmosphere.
Common gaseous air pollutants include carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and nitrogen oxides produced by industry and motor vehicles.
WATER POLLUTION Water pollution is the contamination of
water bodies such as lakes, rivers, oceans, and groundwater caused by human activities, which can be harmful to organisms and plants that live in these water bodies.
Causes of water pollution ( a ) Detergents ( b ) Insecticides and herbicides ( c ) Oil spillage ( d ) Inadequately treated
sewage discharges
SOIL CONTAMINATION
Soil contamination is caused by the presence of man-made chemicals or other alteration in the natural soil environment.
Among the most significant soil contaminations ( a ) garbage( b ) herbicides and pesticides ( c ) development, quarry dan
logging activity .
WHAT YOU CAN DO?
Join a group who are trying to stop pollution
Recycle as much 'waste' as you can. Or don't buy stuff which becomes waste (like packaging from takeaway food). You can use real plates made of china and forks made of steel thousands of times. Plastic plates and cutlery last once and then become waste
WHAT YOU CAN DO? If you want to go somewhere, try
and walk or use a bicycle. Cars are big polluters.
Buying local foods means almost no transport is needed .
Try and get organic food. Organic food does not contain any kind of pesticide or use chemicals that harm the land, air or water. Animals raised in organic farms are treated more kindly than in factory farms
WHAT YOU CAN DO? Try and avoid processed food and
drink. Use fresh food whenever you can and don't eat out so much.
Grow your own vegetables. You don't need much space. You can even grow things in pots on the window ledge or in a sunny spot inside
WHAT YOU CAN DO?
If you have space, make compost from waste food (vegetable peelings and so on). Worms eat all this rotting stuff and make it into a sort of rich soil, very good for plants
WHAT YOU CAN DO?
Don't buy things that you don't need or that you end up throwing away in a couple of weeks
HOW TO OVERCOME POLLUTION?
A. Application of modern technology
Turning garbage and agriculture waste into useful energy resources
B. Environmental education Raise the awareness among people
HOW TO OVERCOME POLLUTION?
C. Activities and suggestion for
environmental protection Exhibition, campaigne,
competition, environmental friendly project.
HOW TO OVERCOME POLLUTION?
D. Regulation and monitoring To protect the environment from the
adverse effects of pollution, many nations worldwide have enacted legislation to regulate various types of pollution as well as to mitigate the adverse effects of pollution.
