Launched with funding from the National
Endowment for the Arts’ Our Town Initiative,
Transform/Restore: Brownsville was a two-year
participatory public art project focused on the
transformation of vandalized Pitkin Avenue
walls into painted murals by young adults.
The initiative resulted in the creation of five
murals on Pitkin Avenue buildings. The walls
were generously donated by Pitkin Avenue busi-
nesses and property owners.
PITKIN AVENUE RENAISSANCE PROGRAM
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Renaissance Program provides
matching grants to property owners
and businesses on Pitkin Avenue to
help finance improvements to build-
ing facades, storefronts, commercial
spaces and residential units. Property
and business owners within the
program area may apply
for reimbursement of up to 75% of
total project cost.
