The PTA Reflections Contest at Pine Forest
Elementary was a great success this year! We had
22 entries and 5 winners in categories representing
both the primary grades, kindergarten through
second grade, and the intermediate grades, third
through fifth. The entries this year reflect both
creativity and work that goes above and beyond
which is evident in student work at Pine Forest
Elementary! Thank you to all who entered and I
look forward to seeing the talent in 2012-2013!

Vote on the 2012 – 2013 School Calendar
You are invited to participate in Humble ISD’s survey
regarding the 2012-2013 school calendar. The survey and two draft calendars have been posted to www.humbleisd.net The draft calendars were developed based upon the following criteria:
• State law stipulates school may not begin before Monday, Aug. 27.
• The district provides 177 days of instruction for students. Teachers work a 187-day contract.
• The community has expressed in previous surveys a long-standing preference for ending the first semester at Winter Break.
• Low attendance days directly affect state funding received by Humble ISD. The Thanksgiving holidays are a full week because student attendance drops significantly when school is open only Monday and Tuesday.
Survey results will be tallied and comments considered. The Board of Trustees will approve a calendar for the 2012-2013 school year in the spring semester.
Help support the Humble ISD Children’s Book Festival by purchasing a t-shirt for only $10! Order forms are due to Mrs. King by tomorrow, Jan. 20.
