Dear Parents,
February is always a special month at Belle Chasse Pri-
mary. Not only do we celebrate Valentine’s Day and Mardi
Gras, this is also when, as a school, we participate in raising
money for the “Make A Wish” Foundation. Our Make-A-Wish
campaign is an expression of kindness. By purchasing paper
“wishing stars” for $1.00 or other trinkets in the Make-A-Wish
store each morning, our students contributed to making a
wish come true for a special child. During the Make-A-Wish
ceremony at the end of this week, our entire student body will
come together to celebrate granting that wish. It’s always a
touching ceremony where the students find out about the
child and his or her wish. We appreciate any amount that you
contributed to the granting of the wish.
With the end of February approaching, we also want
to remind third and fourth grade parents of some important
dates for standardized testing.

Beaux the Blue Crawfish
Parade Time
Mardi Gras is a fun time at BCP. Head Start and PreK students paraded in their festive Mardi Gras floats. First
grade students showed off their book report shoebox floats in the Krewe of Good Books.
Kindergarten students had a visit from Wendy
Cartozzo, author of Beaux the Blue Crawfish. Mrs.
Cartozzo spoke to the students about being kind to
others even if they are
different, and the stu-
dents got to see a real
blue crawfish up close.
February is Dental Health Month. “Growing Up
Fit” representative, Tamaria Hawkins, talked
with first and second grade students about
good dental health habits. The students were
introduced to Plaque Jack to help them re-
member to brush twice daily, floss at least once
a day, and visit the dentist twice a year. A short
video reinforced these good health hab-
its. “Growing Up Fit” is a program in connec-
tion with the P.E. program and teaches about
good health habits.

Cane’s Night
Guest Speaker in 3rd Grade
The third grade students had a
very special visitor when they
were learning about simple
machines! Rob Campbell
came to talk to the third grade
about simple machines. He is a
Captain at the St. George Fire
Department. He gave a
presentation on how simple
machines are used in fire
department opera-
tions. Ask your third
grader to tell you what
they know about simple
machines.
Thank you to all of the students,
parents and teachers who came
out to support BCP at Cane’s
Night. It was a HUGE success.
Cane’s was packed and we en-
joyed spending time with each
other.
Students celebrated the 100th day of school
at the end of January. Lots of fun counting
activities were planned. Students in kindergar-
ten showed how 10 groups of 10 makes 100
and they made lists of 100 words along with
other fun activities. Pictured to the right are
Ms. Bates’ students wearing their 100 hats.
