Desenhado para fornecer um gerenciamento eficiente de memória: O z/VM só mantém as páginas de memória que realmente são utilizadas pelas VMs, economizando memória real. Além disso, consegue mover as páginas pouco usadas para o espaço de Page e voltar para a real somente se for necessário.
Maior overcommitment de recursos: o z/VM continua extremamente estável com uma alta utilização dos recursos virtuais, mesmo que a utilização demandada pelos sistemas virtualizados seja muito maior que a de recursos de CPU e memória reais disponíveis.
Prioridade (share) de recursos: no z/VM, é possível reconfigurar dinamicamente qual é a prioridade de uso de todos os recursos (CPU, memória e I/O).
