Surrounded by the timeless charm of Melbourne’s most prestigious inner eastern suburbs, EastSide Village
offers a home of unique character with an impeccable level of design from the inside out.
EASTSIDE VILLAGEP.01
Rising above Toorak Road, the architecture of EastSide Village presents a balanced composition of ordered vertical
lines, curved forms and pockets of lush greenery.
This is an address of quiet elegance designed by Rothelowman, a leading architectural practice known
for its considered approach to contemporary multi-residential design.
Behind the façade, two large courtyards have been sculpted from the building’s form to allow for increased
natural light and greater views within each home. The textured and naturally toned exteriors of EastSide
Village are ENHANCED by the interiors by Fiona Lynch, creating a seamless sense of design from every angle.

EASTSIDE VILLAGEP.07
Q: You were awarded the “Designer of the Year 2016” at the recent Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA). Can you please tell us a little about this award?A: You have to be nominated by the judges, so it’s a big deal. We were up against very big architectural firms from around Australia, so to win is something our practice is very proud of.
Q: Does your practice have a particular approach to interior design?A: We call ourselves minimalists who love materials. As well as planning, a large part of our focus is on materials – considering how they go together and how they make people feel in a space. That comes from my fine arts background and the early part of my career in single residential projects, which was a fantastic grounding. We want to bring a sense of restraint, of things being timeless, to our multi-residential design.
Q: How has this philosophy informed your work at Eastside Village?A: We’ve worked with the architects at Rothelowman to make sure each residence has the best use of space. One example of that is in the kitchen where there is space between the elements, rather than everything being packed in, wall to wall. It’s design that makes people feel good.
Q: Speaking of the kitchen, can you talk about some of the unique elements there?A: Yes, there are several bespoke design elements, such as the island bench which is set at a lower height, and without drawers, to act more as a traditional dining table. The kitchen is also a good example of our approach to the materials, with a shared tonal palette but different materials – in this case different types of stone and timber finishes with a fine grain.
Q: How would you describe the materials you’ve selected at Eastside Village?A: The materials have an earthiness, while still being smart and sophisticated. The interiors aren’t just a slick mixture of finishes. Eastside Village has soul; it has feeling. There’s a level of detail which I believe sets it apart. Again, it’s about being timeless. We never want to be trend-driven in our approach. We’re designing for the people who will live here.
Q: Are there other design elements you’re particularly proud of?A: There are several small touches throughout, such as the surprising uses of colour within the bathroom cupboards, or the gorgeous light fitting in the living area from Denmark. I think these homes will appeal to people who have an appreciation for design.
Q: What do you think makes Eastside Village stand out?A: From my perspective, I really feel the interiors have a richness and a sophistication which you don’t normally see in multi-residential projects. Architecturally, it’s really interesting how the building is laid out with its gardens and generous use of private open space. And of course the location is a fantastic pocket with little supermarkets, bakeries, parks and beautiful, old oak trees. It’s a very well-established area, which is why we wanted our designs to present more as a home than a typical apartment.
The materials and details have a tactile quality, with green and earthy hues, while still creating a
sense of modernity and urban sophistication.
EASTSIDE VILLAGEP.09
Encapsulating the overall aesthetic of the building, the lobby features a warm and homely design.
with a walnut finish, dark charcoal mirror and inlaid carpeting, IT is AS elegant as it is welcoming.
EASTSIDE VILLAGEP.11
Soft ash tones, beautiful joinery and an intelligent use of space combine in the kitchen.
The muted palette includes dark and light granite surfaces with a grey timber grain, which
complements the French grey floorboards.
Crafted especially with you in mind, each bathroom is full of design wonders.
WITH mirrors OPENING TO spacious cupboards AND THE subtle pop of vintage green, it’s A ROOM THAT ACCOMMODATES BOTH form and function.
THIS IS YOUR sanctuary. a deep forest green carpet brings a sense
tranquility from the lush terrace and gardens below, whilst the bespoke joinery feature discreet handles that continue the
feeling of minimalist luxury from the kitchen.
EASTSIDE Village adds to this area’s reputation for statement gardens with lush
greenery on all sides.
Expansive ground-floor court yards, generous terraces and planters dotted across the facades
all offer a close connection to nature.
At EASTSIDE Village, you’re close to everything that makes this pocket of
Hawthorn East one of the city’s most sought-after places to call home.
