The Forest Restoration Project The £5.2m Forest Restoration Project restored the Forest Recreation Ground to its former glory and was funded by Nottingham City Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund, WREN, and the Castle Cavendish foundation. The Forest Recreation Ground sits about a mile north of the city centre and is well known to many visitors as the site of the annual Nottingham Goose Fair.
Not only does it host many other popular events each year, the Forest Recreation Ground is also a great place for all ages to enjoy:

The NET Tram stop is located at the North West corner of the site at the park and ride. The stop is named ‘the Forest’.
There are a number of bus stops within easy reachoftheForestlocatedonMansfieldRoad,Gregory Boulevard and Forest Road. See www.nctx.co.uk/buses
Car parking is available at the Gregory Boulevard car park. Disabled parking is available in the car parknexttothepavilionaccessedfromMansfieldRoad (please note a radar key is required for entry).
There are bike racks at the car park off Gregory Boulevard.

Into The Forest
AspartoftheForestRestorationProjectwehavea full time Park Ranger based on site. The Park Ranger works to improve visitors’ enjoyment of the park through environmental education, recreation events and activities, conservation activities, patrolling the site and being a uniformed presence, and encouraging community involvement.
ActivitiesledbytheParkRangerprovideopportunities for stretching imaginations, challenging minds, releasing creativity and learning new skills. They are grouped into themes such as adventure or wildlife so children (and grown ups) of all ages and interests and abilities can experience nature, both in the woodland and ontheopenfields.Examplesofsomeactivitiesare shown opposite.
B Build a Nest Box – Join in and help us construct nest boxes for our birds and bats which live in the park.
R Mini Beasts – Discover how creepy crawlies have adapted to their habitat.
Y Woodland Wander – Explore the woodland habitat and learn how to identify different trees. Alsofindoutwhattreesdoandwholivesinthem.
WSeed Safari – Learn how seeds spread themselves around and how they grow.
Y Our feathered friends – How do birds adapt to their environment? Find out how we identify birds, how they identify each other, and how we can help them survive.
M Forest Schools – Could you survive in the wild? Learnhowtolightfiresusingtraditionalmethodsand build shelters to protect you from the elements.
WScavenger Hunt – Seek out natural treasures and learning how nature uses camouflage to survive.
C Natural Art–Useleaves,sticks,stonesandother natural objects found in the forest to make a really wild work of art.
C Smelly Cocktails – Capture the smell of the woodland in a jar using leaves, flowers, grass and other natural objects found in the park. Shake them up together to make a smelly cocktail.
R Wildlife Haven – Lend wildlife in the forest a helping hand by building them a home using natural materials found in the park.
B Build a Bird Feeder – Help the birds through the winter by making fatty feeders to hang in the park.
M Explore the Past - Discover what the Forest was like 100 years ago and learn about the diverse history of the park.

The Forest Recreation Ground offers space, freedom and endless scope for exciting, exhilarating and joyful experiences!
The Park Ranger ServiceEvery day in the life of a Park Ranger is different! It can involve delivering environmental education to schools, nurseries and other education providers, organising and running a varied programme of events, managing and supporting volunteers, ensuring that the park is clean and well maintained and much more. This is achieved by working in partnership with a variety of groups and organisations.
Just some of the skills in daily use by the Park Rangers are:
TheParkRangersarefullyqualifiedfirstaidersand have been checked by the Disclosure and BarringService(DBSformerlyCRB).Allsessionsare risk assessed. We will provide all the resources and equipment necessary to run the activities; however there may be a small charge for some events. Please speak to the Park Rangers for more information before booking.
