The 900 Series offers a full line of low cost, ruggedoptical encoders with incremental output. Well suitedfor industrial motion and position sensing, their lowprofile and high resolution also make them ideal forpanel mounted applications. A two-channelquadrature code allows the encoder to detect thedirection and magnitude of the input motion appliedto its shaft. Available in this family of encoders is a new lowprofile package with internal bearings and integratedmounting holes. Also new to the 900 Series is a high resolutiontachometer style with single channel output. This styleis particularly appropriate for applications involvingticket dispensing, card reading, or any speed-sensingfunction. Up to 256 pulses per revolution (PPR) are availablein a 1” square package. Working with standarddecoding logic provided by the user’s applicationsoftware, the device produces 1024 changes of stateper revolution with full quadrature decoding. Outputis completely compatible with TTL circuitry, permittingentry of digital data without the cost of A/Dconversion. Onboard Schmitt trigger circuitryproduces crisp square wave output. A sealed metal housing along with available diecast or stainless steel shaft ensure strength andaccuracy in harsh environments. The semi-conductor-based LED optical technology provideslonger life and higher reliability than mechanicalencoders or switches. Small in size, the encoderadapts well to new or retrofit applications. Outputterminations available to match industry standard 4or 5 pin configurations. This encoder may be directlycoupled to a motor, gear, or axle. The threadedbushing allows easy system integration for these aswell as panel mounted applications.
