One of the young projects in Makor
HaTikvah School is our Ulpan course.
Makor’s three professional and passionate
teachers responsible for this are Shibolit,
Yael and Rachel.
U lpan is an intensive Hebrew language course
for the students in our school from the new
repatriates’ families or those who recently
moved to Israel. This kind of course opens
opportunities for kids to quickly integrate, to
become part of the society, and to be able to keep
up with Hebrew at school, like the rest of the
students. Yael says, “Teaching Hebrew for me is not
only teaching language but also –
culture and history; to let students
feel that they belong to where they
live now.”
Yael’s motivation to become a
Hebrew teacher comes from her
cultural background. “I was born into
the family of new repatriates and I
know how important a language is in
the process of gaining your identity.”
Children in general, are Yael’s big
love, as they are so sincere in what
they do and in every feedback they give.
Shibolit was teaching Hebrew to adults from the
Arab population in Israel for more than 10 years.
After a break, she thought that was the end of her
teaching career, but at some point, she says, “I saw
how God opened the door for me to teach at this
place, where people try to do everything for God’s
Glory and what is best for the children. Now, I am
very happy to be here and to be part of it.”
Rachel understands, as someone who was once
herself a girl who had to learn Hebrew, “Today I
enjoy sharing the language, and I love
so much meeting the charming
children who came from all over the
world to Israel."
All the teachers agreed that teaching
children is a different world. And enjoy
working on the challenges to find more
interactive or interesting ways of
teaching. It is also a big responsibility
to shape that soft and flexible material
God entrusted into our hands.
“The kids understand everything even when we
don’t pay attention. We change as well, as we have
to pay attention to how we speak, what we say and
even how we address them.”
We love it here, in Makor HaTikvah School. The
children bring so much joy and happiness with
them, no matter what!

Dear Makor HaTikvah family,
May is a very special month
for the State of Israel.
On May 14th, 1948, in Tel Aviv, David Ben-Gurion
declared the establishment of
the Jewish state after almost
two thousand years of exile.
People danced on the streets,
but the female and male
soldiers went to fight for the newly born state. We
are here and for the past 71 years, our sons and
daughters have been serving in the Israel Army
.defending the citizens of the State of Israel [צה"ל]
Even today, we have fallen children, brothers and
sisters, husbands and wives, who die for their
Motherland. That’s why the State of Israel chose the
Memorial Day for the fallen soldiers and the Victims
of terrorism to take place the day before the
Independence Day celebration. In Israel and in all
the Jewish people in general, joy always comes
mixed with sadness. Up to this day, 23,471 soldiers
died in Israeli wars, may their memory be blessed.
We, the Messianic Jews, as part of the nation, serve in the army and defend
our little country. With weapons in our hands and
with prayer in our hearts, we stand with our people
on guard over the Promised Land.
We ask of you, "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem”
Psalm 122:6.
Hundreds of thousands of children, in the State of
Israel, go to sleep nightly under the threat of
rockets in the south and the north, dangerous
rhetoric of the Iranian authorities supports the
terrorist organizations in their fighting against the
State of Israel. Your prayers and support help us
stand firm against all the dangers. The Lord is with
us, Glory to Him!
Ceremonies were held throughout the country in
memory of the fallen soldiers. A very moving
ceremony took place also in our school. Students,
teachers, parents and guests from Israel and from
abroad joined it. You are welcome to see a short
video of the exciting ceremony by following the

This is what the Lord says: “I will return to Zion and dwell in
Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City, and
the mountain of the Lord Almighty will be called the Holy
Mountain.”
This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Once again men and
women of ripe old age will sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each
of them with cane in hand because of their age.
The city streets will be filled with boys and girls playing there.”

Un expected events happen in our lives sometimes. A tragic accident, a serious health
diagnosis, major surgery, the death of a loved one... Suddenly the ground we’re walking on
doesn’t seem solid enough; our spiritual footings do not seem sure. I lost my brother
suddenly mid-April. In a way, I felt like a rug was pulled out from under my feet. Someone who had
always been in my life was no longer here and the ground under my feet seemed to be shaky. It wasn’t
that I doubted God or His Word, but I was not focused, and when I read the Word or prayed, my time
seemed ineffective. I knew I needed to “reestablish” the foundations of my faith; to find my solid ground.
As I pressed in toward God, I began reading Psalm 1. “The path of the righteous.” Verse 2 describes this
person as someone who meditates on the God’s Word day and night. I knew this was the solid path I
needed to be on, keeping God’s Word in my thoughts. Verse 3 paints a picture of being like
a tree firmly planted by streams of water. Roots going deep into the ground.
Testing times give us the opportunity to grow more solid and stronger in our faith.
Deepening out roots. Being more firmly planted in God.

Summer weather has arrived in Israel.
This is spoiling us a bit with extra
vitamin D, but at the same time, we
must remind our children to wear their
hats and use their water bottles a lot.
It is a tradition at Makor HaTikvah that,
after the long Passover holiday,
parents, children, and students have a
cleaning day. This year it was so much fun
watching the unity among all the participants;
young and old, who volunteered their time to
make our school a better and cleaner place for
studies. A special thanks to all who participated.
May is the month of sad and happy memories
and celebrations. The month started with the
Holocaust Remembrance Day. Then Memorial Day
for the fallen soldiers and victims of terror.
Finally, to celebrating Israel’s Independence Day.
One of the unforgettable experiences for the
students of Makor HaTikvah was their visit with
one of the holocaust survivors. She shared her
story of how she survived the Ghetto and the War,
while only 8-11 years old. Never Again!
Student Life continued on back page.
Everyone gets involved in

Praise & Thanks:
We are extremely excited and grateful for our
new bus route which has enabled 10 more
students to attend our school.
More bus routes are being considered. This
would enable additional students from around
Israel to attend Makor HaTikvah. Please pray for
wisdom and supply.
Student Life continued:
May & June are also the months for our end-of-the-
year Makor student trips. The Middle School
students visited museums and went all the way to
Northern of Israel -- Lower Galilee and the Golan
Heights, Banias National Park and the Fortress of
Nimrod. These were fun excursions with special
devotions in the middle of God’s creation,
worshipping together, and much more.
Junior School went to the Museum of Music
and is looking forward for their big trip at the
beginning of June.
The elementary school will go to the Temple
Museum and in June to Tel Afek.
Exploration, Museums,
cooking and fun!
During the summer months our financial
commitments continue. However, students do not
attend, so no tuition is being paid. Our teachers
and staff still receive a salary while our monthly bills
for our lease, utilities, etc. still come due. It is a
struggle for Makor HaTikvah to meet those
responsibilities. Would you prayerfully consider
these financial needs.
