Lighting market overview High volume / cost sensitive / multiple segments
– General lighting (illumination) – General lighting (luminance) – Automotive lighting – Special lighting
Lifetime – Use life (general) ~ 10 kh
• To 80% initial brightness (LT80) • B3 (time to 3% devices failed)
– Shelf life (general) ~ 10 years
Efficacy – Depends on market segment – Minimal 30 lm/W
Color – CRI > 80 for illumination – All colors for luminance

Key differentiators
• Thin • Reflective • High-tech impression (innovators / early
adopters)
• Light weight • flat • freedom in 2D • all colors • high quality light • diffuse light • dimmable
IMOLA Workshop, Barcelona, 6 May 2014 14
OLEDs are thin
Unlike all other light sources, OLEDs are flat and directly emit light over the complete surface. The effect is a large area of homogenous light.

Flexible OLEDs
• OLED will become flexible / bendible in future!
• If OLEDs become flexible / bendible, Then also new methods / technologies on system level are required! – Encapsulations – Housings – Electronics
