Last week, the Monroe Chamber, the News-Star and the Northeast Young Professionals hosted the 2015 Top 20 Under 40 event recognizing outstanding young professionals
throughout Northeast Louisiana. Presenting sponsor for the event was Community Trust
Bank and Thomas & Farr Agency.
TOP 20 UNDER 40 On Thursday, September 10 the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, the News-Star and the Northeast Louisiana Young Professionals will recognize the Top 20 Young
Professionals Under 40 for Northeast Louisiana. The event will be held at the Monroe Civic Center in Monroe. The top 20 individuals were selected from a highly talented group of sixty-six nominees. These individuals are advancing in their
careers, active in the community and dedicated to making Northeast Louisiana a better place to live and work. The Top 20 Under 40 who will be recognized are as
follows: Carol Anne Barnes-Media Coordinator for Vantage Health Plan. Carol Anne is a
Cum Laude graduate of ULM and was recognized as one of the Delta Style’s 2014 Sweet 16-most influential women of the Delta. Carol serves on the board of directors for the Ronald McDonald House and is active in NELA Young Professionals; Alan
Brockman-President of Sunquest Properties and North Delta Ventures. Alan is the co-founder of the Downtown Gallery Crawl that celebrates aspiring artists in NELA.
He is also Co-founder of the North Delta Music Project that produces musical, culinary and art events that are filmed for Louisiana Public Broadcasting; Jason Bullock-President and COO JPS Aviation and JPS Transportation. Jason is a co-
founder of the JPS Equipment and Volvo Rents, which has grown to five locations. He is active in the Louisiana Tech Alumni Association and the United Way: Continued on page 3

Dr. Brian Bush-Assistant Principal, Martin Luther King Junior High School. Brian is a recent graduate of the Greater New Orleans School of
Leadership Center. He is on the board of the Our Kids program, working to show underprivileged youth how to become successful within their
own community and life.: Temika Loyd-Cooks-Manager, Monroe Housing Authority. A graduate of Jackson State, Temika has managed to maintain a 98-100% occupancy rate for all public housing in Ouachita Parish. She is a graduate of Leadership Ouachita and active with the
MT. Olive Youth Development.
Jacquiela McFarland Dorsey-Director, Big Brothers-Big Sisters. Jacquiela works tirelessly to meet the needs of youth in Northeast Louisiana.
Not only, does she work at Big Brothers-Big Sisters, she has also been matched with three “Littles”. She is also active in the Junior League: Michael Echols-Director of Business Development, Vantage Health Plan and Affinity Health Clinic. Michael is passionate about restoration and
has restored several buildings in downtown Monroe. He is active in Rotary and is a founding member of the Center for Children and Families:
Simran Dhaliwal Emaus-Vice President of Operations, Now Save Stores. Simran has a BS degree from Tulane and a MPH from the University of South Florida. She is active in Heritage of India and the Food Bank of NELA.
Ernest Finch-Sales Manager-Thomas & Farr Agency. Ernest is a graduate of ULM and the Leadership Ouachita program. He is active in the Northeast Louisiana Young Professionals and the Great American Clean-up and United Way: Herbert D. Guillory-Owner/CEO of Hi-Def

The Leadership Council and Monroe
Chamber of Commerce are accepting
nominations for the 24th Annual James
M. Shipp, Jr. Memorial Young Business
Leader Award. Jim Shipp was the
General Manager for IMC in Sterlington
who was tragically killed during the
plant explosion in 1991. Jim was a
Monroe Chamber of Commerce Board
member and a leader in our community.
We honor his life of leadership through
the recipients of this prestigious award.
The award recognizes his vision for
outstanding community leadership.
Qualifying Nomination Guidelines:
1. The award is presented annually
to a young individual who has
displayed outstanding civic
leadership ability; who has
made contributions to
community progress; and who
displays personal or business
standing in Ouachita Parish.
2. Nominee must be a resident of
Ouachita Parish.
3. Nominee must be 45 years of
age or younger.
The Leadership Council Chairman
chooses the selection committee and
nominations are confidential. The

The Monroe Chamber is currently taking
applications for the 2016 Leadership Ouachita
class. Nominations are encouraged from all
segments of the community. Individuals may apply
or nominate those they feel best exemplify the
philosophy of Leadership Ouachita. The application
deadline for the 2016 class is Friday, January 8,
2016. Applications may be picked up at the Monroe
Chamber of Commerce or interested parties may
call Chamber Events Director, Daphne McClish at

information.
The purpose of Leadership Ouachita is to develop
and empower the emerging leaders of northeast
Louisiana and help them gain the skills they
need to transform the region into the best place to
live and do business. Class members engage in a
series of sessions focused on education, health care,
workforce development, infrastructure and
government.
The program also provides insight on public
decision making, practical and in-depth discussions
on public issues pertinent to Ouachita Parish, an
expanded knowledge and understanding of the
community in which we live, and the opportunity to
develop lasting relationships with growing and
established leaders in a neutral environment. The
class opening retreat is scheduled for Thursday and
Friday, February 18 and 19, 2016.

We have a host of great speakers and topics again this year and we are excited to share with you. The conference is hosted by the Louisiana Workforce Commission/OSHA Consultation. The purpose of the conference is to enhance workplace hazard recognition and strengthen a culture of workplace safety, thereby reducing employee injuries and illnesses. While the conference is primarily intended for companies’ management staff, hourly employees are encouraged to attend. The conference is FREE to all participants.
