What is the Open Data Institute?
The Open Data Institute is a new, independent, global nonprofit that helps people create economic, environmental, and social impact using open data.
We convene world-class experts to collaborate, innovate, and solve problems.
Our annual international gathering, the ODI Summit, brings together world-leading thinkers and makers from the public, private and third sectors.
We have hundreds of members, have trained thousands of people, and reached over 750,000 people in our short 2-year existence.
We are fortunate to have financial support from Omidyar, Innovate UK, World Bank, EU H2020, and commercial partners. Sponsorship of the ODI Summit helps cover its costs and does not return a profit to the ODI.
The ODI board includes web inventor, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, Sir Nigel Shadbolt, Baroness Martha Lane-Fox, and Neelie Kroes, all of whom have dedicated decades of effort to creating our digital future.
What is Generation Open? Our digital generation, our digital natives, expect open access to everything: an open web, open source, open government, open data. Freedom to connect, freedom to travel, freedom to share, freedom to trade.
Everything available, everywhere, all the time. Anyone can publish, anyone can broadcast, anyone can retail, anyone can learn, anyone can make, everyone can share.
Our generation of makers expect services not products, and their expectations are sky high. If your service isnt good enough, theyll make their own.
Collaboration is mandatory with your customers, your clients, your suppliers, and even with your competitors. From music to moon missions, banks to breweries: what does the world look when open is the default?Generation O are our next generation of innovators and industries, customers and citizens that embrace network thinking, and are built on an open culture.
Our theme for 2015 is Generation Open
