Technical Achievements Y3
• Integration of metadata conversion and access services with Use Case partners (in iterative process)
• Modifications of mappings and services according to evaluation reports
• Update of metadata formats – BMF 1.2 BMF 2.0 (2012)
– TVA 1.4.1 TVA 1.7.1 (2011)
• Generation of a BMF Ontology
5 26-27 March 2012 NoTube 3rd review
Detailed Evaluations
• Objective: ensure consistency in metadata transformations • Second evaluation in Year 3 (based on Year 2 evaluations):
– Re-run of evaluation by inspection for modified egtaMETA2Tva with new test instances from EBU (TVN)
– Evaluation PrestoSpace2Tva through service integrator (RAI)
• Detailed reporting – In internal reports – summary in D2.4
• Bug fixing – In close collaboration with EBU for egtaMETA2Tva conversion – required specific mappings for PrestoSpace RAI-NIC

Professional TV Metadata - going semantic…
• 3 years ago: semantic applications was no topic for most broadcasters
• Today: more awareness for web applications, smart tools for media production etc.
• Input from NoTube: access to the rich production metadata available at broadcasters (from internally and externally) requires structures and permissions

Why BMF?
8 26-27 March 2012 NoTube 3rd review
Abstract semantic model
Designed for metadata exchange in the
professional media production
Also useful for applications in the distribution area
Restrictive but flexible model
Usable as XML Schema
Possible database baseline …or OWL
Will be used by ARD for the exchange of information for
programmes distribution

BMF-OWL
• Use of Semantic Web standards to provide access to the semantics of BMF metadata for Semantic Web applications
• Translation of BMF model into an OWL ontology with support from VUA
• Metadata documents need to be connected with the BMF ontology to query the information: BMF-XML RDF (using XSLT)

Summary + Lessons Learned
• TV metadata interoperability achieved with existing metadata models/formats
• TV-A supports all elaborated requirements • Specific mappings required to solve remaining
issues • BMF-OWL allows provision of TV metadata in an
open standard machine readable and Semantic Web compliant metadata allows linking to the LOD cloud
• Several sustainable results achieved…
