Gordon Hospital will sponsor the Chamber of Commerce’s October Booster Breakfast at Gordon Hospital. Gordon Hospital President and CEO Pete Weber (photo top left) will discuss the purpose of the $36 million expansion project, followed by tours of some of the new and renovated spaces. The hospital sponsors an annual Booster Breakfast event in order to inform citizens about healthcare services in the community.
Pete came to Gordon Hospital in May 2009. Prior to joining Gordon, he served as president and CEO at Texas Health Huguley in Burleson, Texas, another Adventist Health System facility. He and his wife, Karen, and their children, Olivia and David, make their home in Calhoun.

The expansion, which is nearing completion, streamlined the inpatient services to the new north tower. In addition, this project added additional space to accommodate the booming growth and demands of the emergency center.
Consistently evaluating the needs of the community, Gordon Hospital offers numerous services, including a 24-hour emergency center, acute inpatient and outpatient services, digital radiology services, progressive and intensive care units, The Baby Place, women’s diagnostic center, and comprehensive cancer treatment and care. In addition to these services, Gordon Hospital also operates primary care and specialty practices in Calhoun, Fairmount, Adairsville, and Chatsworth.

Hardee’s Restaurant and Aldi’s Grocery are opening soon on Highway 53, as evidenced by the signs gracing their construction sites. Hardee’s will be located inside the remodeled building that formerly housed Wendy’s and Aldi’s will open in a brand new building set to open in December.
United Way of Gordon County launched a new “Game-Changer” campaign and flags are flying all over downtown. Each banner features a business partner who supports United Way, either through payroll deductions or with a donation.. A recent poll found that that less than half of renters have renter’s insurance. So is it worth shelling out a little extra money each month to buy a policy? Here are five reasons why you may want to consider
insurance if you are renting space.
1) Just because your landlord has insurance, doesn’t mean you are covered. Some renters believe that their possessions are covered by their landlord’s insurance plan, or the insurance
policy of their apartment complex. Unfortunately, that is rarely the case. Renters insurance needs to be purchased by the tenant to ensure that one’s possessions are protected.
2) It’s relatively inexpensive.A recent study found that the average renter’s insurance policy costs $187 a year, or a little over $15 a month. For a price that low renters can get substantial coverage to protect their belongings. As Ben
Franklin once said, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
3) Renters insurance covers a wide variety of incidents. A typical policy will cover you from fires, theft, and water damage from bursting pipes. However, some
weather related hazards (such as flooding from rain) are not covered. If flood damage is a concern to you, you may want to consider a supplemental flood insurance policy.
4) Renters insurance offers liability protections. If someone is injured at your residence, renters insurance can protect you from being financially liable.
Most renters insurance plans offer some liability protections that may pay the medical bills of the injured person.
5) There are many ways to customize a renters insurance policy to fit your budget. Some plans will reimburse you for the amount of money you paid for a product, while others will reimburse
you for what the item was worth when it was damaged.
While renters insurance is an affordable way to safeguard your possessions, there are some circumstances where it may not be the best option for you. If you are in a short term lease or may be moving in the near future, obtaining insurance may not be worth the hassle. Additionally, if you only have a few objects of
significant value you might consider insuring only those items.

Dalton State Announces Additional Degrees in School of Business
Adult Education Center Volunteers Needed
Community volunteer opportunities in GNTC’s Adult Education Programs include helping adults with beginning reading, English skills, and math
concepts. A commitment of as little as two hours a week can make a difference in the life of an adult who has returned to school. Volunteers must have at least a high school diploma or GED® credential
and possess a "degree of caring."

Dalton State now has 20 bachelor degrees available for students after the Board of Regents approved adding a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Applied Economics on Tuesday.
The degree joins five other bachelor degrees in the School of Business. They include Accounting, Management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, and Technology Management. Students can begin working toward the new degree this fall.
“This is a badly needed program in this region,” said Dr. Larry Johnson, dean of the School of Business. “It has been for a long time. Students have wanted this degree, and the business community is in need of graduates with this degree. We’re glad the Board of Regents is willing to support us. Our finance degree is designed to meet the needs of the workforce here.”
