Troxler New Technology Oven - Model 4730/4731
NCAT Ignition Method for Measuring Asphalt ContentThe quality of hot-mix asphalt pavement is typically characterized by two important factors—the asphalt binder content and the gradation of aggregates.
Troxler Electronic Laboratories, an industry leader in precision test and measurement instruments for the construction industry, has developed and patented a more advanced method for determining asphalt content in hot-mix asphalt. First introduced in 1999, the infrared-based NTO has proven to be fast, accurate, and friendlier for the environment.
Clean and EcientThe New Technology Oven (NTO) uses advanced infrared (IR) technology to measure asphalt content using the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) method. This produces a very clean and ecient burning of the asphalt while limiting the aggregate breakdown.
Integrated Weighing SystemThe NTO features an integrated weighing system that continuously measures the bituminous weight loss during combustion and automatically displays the percent of asphalt in the mix. The remaining aggregate can be sieved for gradation analysis. How the NTO WorksThe Troxler NTO is simple to use. Heat the sample, weigh and spread the asphalt mixture across two sample baskets and place the baskets into the chamber. Enter the sample mass, close the door and press start to begin the test.
Built-in scales automatically measure mass loss and % loss. An internal printer provides a constant record of test data. The NTO stores up to 300 test results and correction factors. Either positive or nega-tive aggregate correction factors can be used for a specic mixture. Data stored in the console can be printed or downloaded to a computer through the RS-232 serial interface.

Troxler New Technology Oven (NTO)
Special NTO Burn ProlesThe NTO has the ablility to control the burn sequence during every minute of a burn cycle. By testing a broad cross section of asphalt mixes from across the United States and Canada, Troxler has developed a series of burn proles which allows the operator to ne-tune each burn based on aggregate types or mixtures.
Other BenetsASTM / AASHTO CompliantThe NTO uses the NCAT Ignition Method and meets ASTM D6307-98 and AASHTO T308-01.
No Temperature Correction Factor Needed The NTO uses a proprietary design that eliminates the need for a temperature correction factor.
Low EmissionsThe NTO’s low emissions are achieved without the necessity of an afterburner or lters. The NTO was developed with the intent of reducing emissions and the design enables more ecient and complete mixture burns.
