HMCC Presidents report Oct 2017Hi again, well Round 3 of our Putoline winter series has been done and dusted and it was a great day of racing. Firstly a big thank you as always to the officials and flag marshals who helped- we absolutely cannot run a meeting without you guys so I can’t thank you enough. Thanks also the competitors, we saw some great racing by some talented people. The prize giving for the Putoline series is the first club night in December, we will also be acknowledging our track marshals and we will also be broadcasting live on Facebook, we as a club always like to break new ground. The charity coast to coast ride is coming up and I hope club members will get in behind this great cause. Ollie will give you all details on club night and
how you can lend a hand and be part of something that helps save lives. The Trials riders ran round 2 of the Errol McCabe Memorial Series on 8 October, and are running round 4 of the HMCC Championships on Guy Fawks Day (see poster). The road riders took a run down to Awakino, see the article, and are going loopy on November 18 and doing the Coromandel loop. Don’t forget the annual Fish n Chip ride on club night.
Lastly, again, we are having the Putoline Winter Series Prizegiving on the December clubnight.Cheers Frilly.

October’s club night saw Andrew Stroud bringing the Brittan bike on display; a Britten tribute bike constructed from a VTR1000. Cool :)

*Press Release* Hamilton Motorcycle Cub2017 Putoline Winter SeriesRound 3 of HMCC Putoline Winter Series headed to Taupo’s Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park. Conditions were Fine, Cloudy and Cool for most of the day (apart from one short shower and 15min delay). Conditions were tricky with the wind playing its part around the track making it sometimes difficult for the riders. This being the Round Where Championships would be decided it promised to bring some good close racing and every class delivered with fantastic action throughout the day, with 3 races for each class. OYDS MOTORCYCLES SUPERMOTOS. Good fields turned out across all classes with the supermoto leading off the day’s racing. The action throughout the races was action packed with plenty of racing through the field, Chris Andrews came for the last round and Grabbed 2 Wins on the day and John Oliver the other race win and Tony Hirini had good placings to maintain his place in the Championship, and Mark Oliver had a consistent day but neither rider could do enough to stop John Oliver from taking the Championship.Boyd Motorcycles Supermoto Championship Standings: 1st John Oliver 162 pts, 2nd Tony Hirini 134 pts, 3rd Mark Oliver 106 pts
PUTOLINE SENIOR CLASS. Next out were the seniors. Featuring Nathan Jane(Series Leader) and appearing for the final round Aaron Hassan(Suzuki) and Connor London(Kawasaki), the racing was fast and exciting, this was London’s first time out on the ZX10-R and he must have been enjoying it taking 3 wins from 3 races and Hassan taking 3 second placings on the Suzuki, Jane on the day hung in there for 2 thirds and a 4th to secure the Championship, third in the Series standings Adrian Claire did enough to keep his place and second placed Nick Kampenhout didn’t run at the last round. Putoline Senior Championship Standings: 1st Nathan Jane 120 pts, 2nd Nick Kampenhout 77 pts, 3rd Adrian Claire 76 pts. (Picture - Nathan Jane No. 97)

NV MOTOCYCLES COMBINED CLASSIC/POST CLASSIC SNR & JNR, With the classes running together it made for some brilliant racing, Snr Series leader Matt Eggleton along with SJ Cavell battled throughout the day but nothing was going to stop Eggleton from taking the Title, he showed true pace all day and Cavell had no answer, it was one thing catching him, but getting past was another question, so Eggleton took 3 from 3 and Cavell settling for 3 second placings, Mark Hatton was there or there abouts but had to settle for 3 third placings. In the Jnr races Series Leader David Lewis took 3 wins in his Class but he was riding very well and wasn’t far behind the front runners and Kerry Chapman, Nigel Lennox performed consistently throughout the day.NV Motorcycles Snr & Junior Championship StandingsSnr 1st Matt Eggleton 195 pts Jnr 1st David Lewis 210 pts2nd SJ Cavell 186 pts 2nd Kerry Chapman 161 pts3rd Mark Hatton 139 pts 3rd Nigel Lennox 134 pts

SHOEI JUNIOR PRODUCTION was up next with Nick Burke, Leon Jacobs and Phillp Lowe battling it out throughout the day. Jacobs finished 2nd in the first race behind Jacob Stroud then went on to win the next two races while Burke rode consistently too secure the Championship, 3rd in the standings Jon-Michael Tauri was missing on race day due to an off on the Saturday Track Day.Shoei Junior Production Championship Standings: 1st Nick Burke 171 pts, 2nd Leon Jacobs 117 pts, 3rd Jon-Michael Tauri 75 pts.JUNIOR LIGHTWEIGHTS made for some very interesting racing, young men racing in fantastic spirit and showing the future of NZ racing is in good hands. BRIDGESTONE INTERMDIATE CLASS had some interesting Racing, with Nathaneal Diprose making his first appearance along with Richard Markham-Barrett, Diprose took 3 wins on the day and was very strong around the circuit with no one really challenging him, Markham-Barrett took 2 second placings, but had an off in race 2, Series Leader Jordan Burley was consistent all day taking 2 third placings and a second, and Liam Underwood doing what he had to do to keep his second place in the Champioship.Bridgestone Intermediate Championship Standings: 1st Jordan Burley 192 pts, 2nd Liam Underwood 148 pts, 3rd Nick Kampenhout 98 pts.CTAS LIVE Clubmans A and BSeries Leader Andy Harper had another Good Day and Completed Maximum Points for the seriesbut was pushed hard by Shane Wiki all day, the racing was very enjoyable to watch as battles went on throughout the field and David Hamilton fought hard to keep his series points rolling on in the Clubman ‘A’s, in the ‘B ’class David Jansen had another good run taking two wins and a second and Duncan Rowe getting a win and two second placings.CTAS LIVE Clubman Championship StandingsClubman A Clubman B1st Andy Harper 225 pts 1st David Jansen 1922nd David Hamilton 153 pts 2nd Aaron Lowe 135 pts3rd Steve Manning 92 pts 3rd James Devlin 118 ptsPicture below: Andy Harper (57) and Shane WikiAnd the Winner of the Shoei NXR Helmet went to Andrew Ansell.

The Last Round of 2017 in Italy. We did it ! We made it a successful season in Italy. We want to thank you all !!!!! And all our sponsors and fans ! Its been a hard & testing road for us, but we have come out the other side stronger, faster and more knowledgeable. Even with the shoe string budget and bike tampering, we have made some life long friends and family here. We have had another massive weekend here at Vallelunga Autodromo, down near Roma. 4 days at the track where half the paddock is split, inside the track in the boxes and on the outside of the track for everyone else, due to minimal room. Jo calculated she walked 65 Kms over the 4 days. After race day there was a slight pain competition as to who hurt the most, the rider or the mechanic.Bruce (Dillon’s Dad) was a savior this weekend as well. We could not have achieved these results without him on hand, as well as Gabro & Alessandro from Gabro Racing Team, and the M2 Family. We made everyone proud after a hard qualifying, only managing 25th on the grid.. to battle through the field lap after lap getting stronger and faster to take 16th place after 12 laps. It’s a strong class, with the championship leader Luca Salvadori injured at the last round at Mugello, we had a world Superbike winning rider Michele Fabrizio on a World Superstock bike in our class. He got pole position in qualifying but second in the race. Jo hopes to get the Mugello video up this evening, after driving home from Basically Roma, and between being a race tech, mechanic, cook, organizer and more she’s been working her butt off, she has tried to load it twice but the internet has been crap and dropped out half way through, then second time it predicted 3 hours to load a 6minute video. The struggle is real! Who knows anyone up in head office of Vodafone?? We need their sponsorship for unlimited wifi & phone service next year, its cost us thousands the past 6 months and it’s a real head ache not being able to keep you all posted. Thank you to all!
Back in the country & straight to the tracksWe are back in NZ and and straight back to work, day 1 had us straight to Bruce McLaren Motorsport track and catching up with Carl & the team of Carl Cox Motorsport & Tony from BMMP Day 2 saw us back in the workshop doing an engine swap for a friend that’s racing this weekend and now Day 3 we are back at Hampton Downs track doing some rider training, And good news, our bikes and gear have arrived home too! And now to prepare for the Suzuki Series and a number of bike shows and works we have in the next weeks, we will keep you in formed of what and where we will be !
TR20 Update - Dillon & Jo in ItalyWinter Series Rider ProfileAaron Lambourne - HMCC RD3 Putoline Winter Series 2017QUALIFYING: Went out to scrub in my brand new Dunlop slicks but had to come in on my out lap as my boot kept getting stuck on the new fairing whenever I tried to change up or down gears. I pulled in and had a quick chat to dad who said I had to do at least two flying laps to qualify for the races. So back out I went, going 2 seconds slower than my wet times from the last round which was a little annoying, but was okay as I planned to start from the back of the grid irregardless to work on my starts around the big 4 strokes. Thankfully Roman Rajek was there with his tin snips to help adjust my bodywork for the remainder of the day.RACE 1: Got a decent start and was going quite well, noticed I was getting closer and closer to my team mate Campbell Grayling throughout the race. On the 4th lap I believe it was, I was trying to follow his lines from roughly a second behind him, when I see he runs on at turn 1. Gave me a little bit of confidence as I was excited to get one over him, but all of a sudden a massive gust of wind hit me and next thing I knew I was in the gravel trap beside him. I got stuck for a while but did not fall off so I rejoined for half a lap, where I ended up pulling off at turn 5 due to conditions being extreme, and the leaders coming round behind me, whose race I did not want to interfere with.RACE 2: Unfortunately this one really did not go to plan and I made the call to pull in early because of the extreme wind.RACE 3: Was feeling fired up after the disappointment from the previous race, but as I was on the starting grid, I put it into 1st while revving with the clutch still pulled in, but the bike stalled itself anyway. This got me wound up as everyone else took off and I was left getting pushed over the grid positions trying to get the bike started. Eventually it fired and off I went, riding faster than I had ever ridden the 125 before. But to top the weekend off, as I was coming into turn two on the second lap, the chain adjuster broke causing the chain to fall off of the rear sprocket. However looking on the bright side, both Campbell and I took a lot of positives away from such a negative weekend, and will be back fighting at AMCC RD1 Massive thank you to Nigel Lambourne and Steven Jones for everything Also thank you to the sponsors who make everything possible :Team Aspire, Total AccessWil Sport, Total OilsSPJ Art and DesignRST, AGV, WizTe Moenga LodgeHonda HamiltonWaikato Suspended Ceilings

The Surf 2 Surf Rescue Ride Saturday and Sunday: 4th November 2017 and overnight optionRIDE MARSHALS. We would like to hear from any club members who be able to assist with the running of the ride either in the capacity of a “Ride Marshal” or assisting with registrations at the Working Men’s Club.Contact organiserss by email at; [email protected] or by ph/txt on 022 354 5018. Editor - the full article was included in the August 2017 club magazine.
After about an hour there to let the roads dry out, for 3 of us it was a dry, uneventful ride back to Otorohonga on the main rd via the Awakino Gorge, then back through Pirongia to Hamilton.Unbeknown to us who took off early from the pub, one of the Hinckley Tridents had a flat tyre. So the 2 on that bike became pillions for the ride back to Hamilton after safely stashing the bike near the pub. Back in Hamilton, they got a car and trailer and returned to pick up the bike, trailered it back to Hamilton where someone just happened to have an 18” replacement tyre. Once the tyre was changed, they headed back to Auckland arriving home in west Auckland after midnight.Approx 360kms, 6 hrs ride time, 12kms of very slushy limestone gravel, well over half the time on very twisty wet interesting roads with great scenery, and over an hour to clean the slush off the bike once home. All in all, a great ride with good people, not too many cops, a good lunch, only 1 flat tyre “incident”, and most of us were home in time to watch the MotoGP from Phillip Island.A great way to spend a Sunday of Labour weekend (as long as you were not the one with the flat tyre).Bruce.
Road Riders - Awakino ride, Sunday 22 Oct 2017 (formally the TeAnga GP).
Eight bikes left BP Tristram at just after 10am as the rain started. “It will fine up as we go south” someone was heard to say. Yeah right!!! We headed south and the rain got worse, and as we climbed up the side of Mt Pirongia through Ngutunui we got mist with the rain. The mist cleared somewhat until we climbed the hills again out on the Kawhia rd. The lookout was shrouded in mist and rain, but it all started to clear as we all met up at the Oparau turnoff, to go even further south via Kinohaku. The ST4S Senna turned around at the turnoff and headed back to Hamilton as he was on call and needed to stay within cell coverage. The rest of us carried on, a VTR 1000, a V11 Breva, an R1150RS, a Tuono1000, 2 x Hinckley Tridents and a 1050 Sprint. The rain stopped, but roads stayed wet fairly much all the way to TeAnga and on to Awakino via some gravel road, where we stopped to fill up the bikes. Then it was on to the pub for lunch. Great place to stop for a food intake, the food was great.

The Gixxer Cup comethNow’s your big chance to go bike racing. If you’ve ever wanted to go motorcycle racing at places like Manfeild, Hampton Downs, Taupo, Levels, Teretonga or Ruapuna, you now really have no excuse not to give it a go.Starting this summer, both the pre-nationals Suzuki Tri-Series and then the 2018 New Zealand Superbike Championships that follow will include a class for “entry level” racing.Called the GIXXER Cup – with the tagline “Growing Future Champions” – the racing involves riders hitting the race tracks on identical Suzuki GSX150F bikes, an absolutely level playing field for those starting out and on a limited budget. If you’re between the ages of 14 and 21, then being part of New Zealand’s newest class of production racing is definitely the most exciting thing you can do this summer – and it’s also a springboard towards a successful racing future.Ready to race at just $5,995, the package includes full Alpinestars race gear and Bell helmet. These air-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder, fully-faired GSX150F bikes have been prepared in Suzuki’s workshop by Suzuki’s national superbike champion Sloan Frost.Fitted with Dunlop AL13 tires and a host of other hand-crafted race parts, the GSX150F is delivered complete with a rear race stand.“Our goal was to make this class not only one of the most competitive but also inexpensive for riders,” said Suzuki New Zealand’s general manager Simon Meade. With a proposed eight events over the summer period, including the chance to win the inaugural GIXXER cup, there is the added opportunity to win over $5000 in Suzuki bonus money, along with further prize money in the Suzuki Tri Series. The bikes are incredible and each one is supplied “ready to race”.“We want to develop and encourage new riders to come through the ranks,” said Meade.“As the tagline suggests, we are wanting to grow future champions.“To start off with a competitive race bike, complete with leather riding suit, gloves and helmet, bike graphics and race numbers, and other goodies too, all for just $5995, is a pretty good way to get going.“We want to keep this class as competitive as possible, with a level playing field for all the entrants. This is where riders can gain race craft without the inherent dangers of high speed or the worries of high cost.“This is where the future champions, the next Sloan Frost or Daniel Mettam of New Zealand, will come from. The racing will be amazing, competition where to miss a gear could mean losing four or five places on the race track.”With as many as 20 or 30 identical bikes on the race track at one time and so much talent in the Kiwi bike community just waiting to burst free, this summer could be very hot indeed. Vanuatu Trials Championship 30 September 2017Hi to all HMCC members back in New Zealand. Many of you probably don’t know me, so a brief introduction. My name is Martyn Vincent and I have been a HMCC member since the 1970’s (and I am looking forward to the 100 year anniversary next year of the HMCC since it was incorporated). My crime is that I enjoy riding motorbikes, and have done so for most of my life. I am a trials rider, though I don’t currently have a trials bike, instead I ride a Kawasaki ER 650 (in storage in NZ). I first started riding trials in the 1970’s with a Honda SL125 that I would use for transport during the week then I would strip down on Saturday mornings to ride trials on Sunday. I then progressed to an Ossa, then Bultaco and a Fantic. I haven’t competed in a trial for the last 25 years or so, though I had a stint riding in the Fifty Frenzies with Roger Mahoney and Iain Morton. In March this year my wife Annette and I moved to Vanuatu to work with the Presbyterian Church of Vanuatu. We joined a local church and I met some keen enduro riders living in Vanuatu. There are around 25 enduro riders here. Some make trips to NZ and Aussie to ride there. Three of the enduro riders decided to purchase a trials bike each so they purchased Shercos. There is also a Yamaha TY 350 somewhere in Vanuatu that is being repaired. Terry Maloney lives in Vanuatu running a IT business, and he owns one of the Shercos. He was keen to organise a trial, and I was keen to give him a hand along with Barry Bailey (a NZ based rider, who came up here for a week). We went out on a Thursday to scope out the farm that we were going to use for Saturday’s trial. We found a suitable part of the farm to set up the area we were going to use for the trial. Saturday morning Terry, Barry and I headed out to the farm to set up the sections to ride. We planned to start the trial at 1.00 pm. 8 riders turned up including the three of us, and we shared Terry’s and Brett’s bikes. The weather was fine and hot, clear blue skies. That’s not unusual here of course. The temperature was probably around 29 degrees, fortunately three sections were in the shade. We set out 6 sections and rode them 4 times. My trials gear didn’t quite reach the standard I would have liked: a borrowed helmet and some basic work boots. So that was the report on the first trial held in Vanuatu. If you want to find out more about the enduro or trials riding in Vanuatu please contact me and I will put you in contact with someone living here. My email address is [email protected] We have already set the date for the next trial on Saturday 11th November. Keep your feet up, and safe ridingMartyn(Pic from Facebook circa 1975!)
