Morocco opened its first contemporary art museum in Rabat in 2014. The Mohammed VI Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art (MMVI) is Morocco’s first large-scale museum built since the country’s independence from France in 1956.
The three-floor building, whose designers were influenced by traditional Moroccan architecture, took a decade to construct
The three-level building with a covered surface area of 9400 m2, conceived by the architect Karim Chakor, provide space and infrastructure for a permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, auditorium, art & multimedia libraries, conservation lab, education department, offices, service, storage and technical areas, as well as a restaurant. It is the first public institution following international museological standards
Located in the city center of Rabat on the corner of Avenue Moulay El Hassan and Avenue Allal Ben Abdallah, the Mohammed VI Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art (MMVI) opened its doors in October 2014
It is the first museum's institution in Morocco dedicated entirely to modern and contemporary arts
