Abstract:Thespaceraceisn'twhatitusedtobe.Whatstartedoffasacompetitionbetweensuperpowergovernmentshasbecomeafree-for-allwithdozensofcountriesandmanycommercialandnon-profitentities.I'llreviewthechangesdecadebydecadeasthespacearenaprogressivelyinternationalized,commercializedandthendemocratized;discussquantitativelyhowmuchstuffisinspacenow,who'sputtingitthere,andwhatit'supto.I'llalsodiscussthepopulationofsatellitesinspecialorbitssuchasthegeostationaryandsun-synchronousregimes.
