As he works toward the 2010 Olympics, Jeff Pain is

Games in Salt Lake City, 2002. In 2006, Pain earned the

Twice an Olympian, Cherie Piper has two Olympic gold

Poirier and his partner, Vanessa Crone, are the 2009

Canadian silver medallists, 2008 Skate Canada silver

medallists and the 2008 World Junior silver medallists.

World Junior Championships in Igls, Austria.

Shannon Rempel



At the 2009 World Championships, Rempel was 11th in

the 1500m, 16th in the 1000m and 20th in the 500m. She

finished top five in the World Cup standings for the

1000m and 1500m. Silver medal winner in 2006 for Team

Pursuit.

Sara Renner



She has competed in 3 Olympic Games. Renner won a

silver medal with teammate Beckie Scott at the 2006

Olympics and also won a bronze medal at the 2005

World Championships.

Richards has no Olympic experience, but medalled at the

world juniors, twice: silver in 2004, and gold in 2005.

Has won 12 World Cup medals since placing fourth at the

Turin 2006 Olympic Winter Games where Ricker posted

the fastest qualifying time in snowboard cross, but

crashed in the final.

Schussler won a gold medal in team pursuit, finished

Staal was named as an alternate for the 2006 Olympic

tournament in Turin, Italy, but did not play. Staal took

gold with Team Canada at the 2007 worlds. He also won

the Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006.

Shannon Szabados

This goalie has been part of Canada's national team since

2006, but has yet to play in a game at a world

championship. She has played in two 4 Nations Cups,

winning two gold medals.

While Tandy has competed in two world championships,

2010 will be her first Olympic Games.

Joe Thornton

Hometown: St. Thomas, ON

Thornton was on Canada's 2006 Olympic men's hockey

team. The squad finished seventh in the tournament in

Turin, Italy. Thornton is a six-time NHL All Star. He also

won both the Art Ross and Hart Memorial Trophies in

2006.

2007 IIHF world championships and twice at the world

junior tournament (in 2006 and 2007).

Calgary's Helen Upperton joined the Canadian national

bobsleigh team in 2003. She competed in her first

Olympic Winter Games in Turin 2006 where she narrowly

missed out on a podium finish.

medal winning team. She has also skated in four world

Hayley Wickenheiser

Hometown: Shaunavon, SK

Wickenheiser has been part of the national team since

1994, participating in all three Olympic Games so far,

earning two gold medals and one silver. She is a six-time

world champion and also has three world championship

silver medals. She also competed in the 2000 Summer

Olympics in softball.

Jeremy Wotherspoon



Wotherspoon is headed to his fourth Winter Games in

Vancouver and is looking to add to the silver medal he

won at his debut Olympics in Nagano. He is the 500m

world record holder, and his 67 World Cup wins are an

all-time record for male speed skaters.

Finished 18th in the 2009 World Championships after

winning her first World Cup medal in parallel giant slalom

in 2008. Zakreski has secured a total of three top-10

World Cup finishes since 2007.

Brian McKeever

Legally blind, he only has slight peripheral vision, he will

become the first Canadian athlete to compete in the

Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Hometown: Aylmer, QC

Won first career World Cup medal, a silver in parallel

giant slalom, in March 2009 and placed 11th at 2009

World Championships in the same event. Since the 2006

Turin Winter Olympic Games, Calve has three top-10

finishes in parallel giant slalom on the World Cup.
