INDETAIL: WiththeofficialsigningoftheMemorandumofAgreement,thestateandcity
agreetosupportandassistwiththedevelopment,designreviewandapprovaloftheNationalCoastGuardMuseumplansandspecificationsforthesite,andtoassistwiththecoordinationoflocaldevelopmenttosupportthemuseumproject,includingpermits,variances,zoning,andotherapprovalswithintheirrespectivejurisdictions.
InApril2013,theNationalCoastGuardMuseumAssociationalongwiththeUnitedStatesCoastGuard,StateofConnecticutandCityofNewLondonannouncedtheproposedlocationanddesignsforthemuch-anticipatedNationalCoastGuardMuseum.Plansincludeafour-story,54,300-square-footbuildingwithfourfloorsofinteractiveexhibits,eventspaceandlecturerooms,aswellasareceptionareawithgiftshopandcafé.Inaddition,plansanticipatedockingtheCoastGuard'stallship,BarqueEAGLE,atanadjacentpierservingasanadditionalattraction.ApedestrianoverpassacrosstherailroadtrackswillconnectthemuseumwiththelocalferryterminalandtrainstationhelpingtoushervisitorsworldwideastheycometoexperiencethisfirstnationalmuseumdedicatedtotheU.S.CoastGuard'shistory.
