About MEA a. The MEA group The MEA group is a German family-run firm founded in Aichach, Bavaria, in 1886. It was brought under professional management in 1999 and has since become a respected European supplier to the industrial and construction sectors. The MEA group is currently organized into 4 strategic divisions:
Drainage Systems: Manufacturing and marketing of multi-material channels (composite, polymer resin, concrete, steel and stainless steel) and Water Management Solutions
Building Products: Manufacturing and marketing of natural resource
piping and ducting solutions (water, air, light) for residential applications
Metal Applications: Manufacture and marketing of gratings (steel, stainless steel, composite)
ACP: Composite and Plastics Applications
The group’s technical skills in the use of composite materials, galvanized steel and polymer resin at production sites in the Czech Republic, Holland, Germany, France, Rumania and China, are the cornerstone of MEA’s remarkable competitiveness. Thanks to its position as market leader in dry areas and composite channels, and enjoying a growing market share in the drainage systems sectors, the various divisions employ around 700 people. The constant development of new products and the establishment of strategic alliances underpin MEA group’s international growth. Our drainage solutions a. Specially developed channels for drainage of tramway tracks MEA Drainage Systems is one of the leading manufacturers of linear drainage systems. MEA has developed a specific range of channels for the drainage of tramway tracks. A unique multi-material product range allows MEA to offer polymer concrete by way of traditional channel-systems construction materials as well as glass-fiber reinforced polyester (GRP) as a modern, light, easy to install and highly stable solution. This product mix enables MEA to offer the perfect product for every application of tramway tracks: - Polymer concrete: MEADRAIN ENS 2000 TRAM - Glass-fiber reinforced polyester (GRP): MEARIN Plus / Expert 200

General plan of the rail-rail solution
Use of a 1.25 meter length channel: No weak points are created in the drainage line No problems with sealing Grating fixing system maintained in its entirety Polymer concrete channel with metal reinforced walls: - Channel construction designed to cope with
extreme lateral forces - Reinforced cast metal rebate - Side walls with integrated metal reinforcement Connection to the rail is done by galvanized steel connectors coated with insulating rubber. Side holes (Ø 60 or 80 mm) to pick up transverse drains.

Interface with the rail Hot galvanized connecting box - Connector can be varied to suit rail type - Hot galvanized to DIN EN ISO 1461 standard
(thickness 70 μm) Fixing solution with no rail drilling: - Electrical rail insulation assured at all levels - Eliminates effects of expansion - Replacement possible after
concreting of channel Overflow within channel to ensure optimal seal Connection between elements - Connection by opposing face plates - Clearance area beneath rail > 175 cm² - Continuous drainage channel across the full
width of the platform

c. MEARIN Plus / Expert 200 General plan of the between-rail solution Ideal solution for important implementation constraints: - Track passing under a tunnel - Track passing over a bridge - Limited weight - Specific outlet - …

d. Innovative cover gratings The channel is fitted with ductile cast iron gratings, loading class D400 according to the European standard EN 1433 as well as a reduced mobility access compliant (ADA and heel guard). The gratings are coated with a water-based paint according to our commitment to environmental protection. 4-point fixing: safety assured
The gratings have lugs on the lower surface to ensure that they will not move lengthways or sideways in the channel. They are fixed using 4 screws (socket bolt type) and 4 nuts with anti-corrosion treatment to facilitate post-installation grating removal.
The screws are also fitted with a loosening-resistant system to counter the effects of vibration. Two grating lengths: appearance is a high priority The visual quality of the cross-channeling (particularly gratings) is an important architectural aspect when integrating tramways into the landscape. For this reason, MEA has innovated once more, with two grating lengths available: 0.5 and 0.75 m. The traditional between-rail channel (1.25 m) no longer has 3 grating sections, but two full gratings, the first with a length of 0.5 m, and the second 0.75 m. Thus the gaps between the gratings can be perfectly managed and visual continuity improved.

Aesthetics, however, must not hinder safety, so the combined use of these two types ensures 4-point fixing for each grating used, irrespective of channel lengths, avoiding the complications arising from traditional fixing systems (by central key). The innovative STARFIX grating secure system Speeds installation and maintenance. This saves time and money. The 4-point lock prevents loose or rattling grates and prevents longitudinal displacements. No bolts or special tools are needed to assemble and disassemble grates, done with the flick of a wrist. It has never been so simple and fast. - Long service life, as no movable parts or parts
subject to wear - No reduction of the discharge cross-section, as
the complete channel cross section remains unobstructed
- Simple and fast insertion and removal of gratings with a single hand movement – without need for special tools

e. Water boxes Hot galvanised steel or cast metal water boxes: - Excellent load characteristics – class D400 - Hot galvanised to DIN EN ISO 1461 standard
(thickness 70 μm) - Cast metal variant currently in development Through-rail fixing of water box: - 2 M16 bolts inside the box for easier
maintenance
Includes threaded holes for grating fixing - Slotted cast metal grating, class
D400, reduced mobility access compliant
- Tamper-proof bolt fastening Vertical outlet Ø 125 mm as standard, other sizes made to measure
Electric rail insulation kit available: - Insulating band around edge - Insulating cylinders - Insulating washers
Isolating EPDM plate
