HOW DOES CONSIGNMENT
WORK?
You can get more for your car with consignment. We charge a very low
consignment fee to offset our advertising costs. This fee will market your vehicle worldwide for 90 days. Every vehicle is set with a ‘reserve’ price to match the current market value.
After we sell your car, you are guaranteed to get that reserve amount, unless you authorize us to lower it. Your vehicle is available for display in our showroom or on our secure lot. Your title stays securely with you. We only
need a copy of the title to ensure ownership, you keep the original at home with you until the vehicle sells.
What To Expect When You Bring In Your Car:
• We will inspect your vehicle to ensure it meets our quality standards
• After doing some research, we will give you a current market value for your vehicle
• We will take a copy of your title
• We will take a copy of the registered owner’s Drivers License
• We will ensure the VIN on the vehicle matches the one on the title
• You will remove any personal possessions from the vehicle
• Provide us with detailed information on your vehicle
• Sign consignment contracts and other necessary paperwork
• We will get the vehicle posted on our website and the other websites within a few days

A lot of people may find the themselves driving upside
down. Not physically, of course, but financially. The average transaction price of a new vehicle is over $33,000 and in order to afford the monthly payment, more and more people are financing these cars for seven, even eight, years.
The result is they are finding themselves with negative equity for
sometimes over 5 years, unable to
trade or sell the vehicle because of it.
Even with low rates, maybe it is in your
best interest to consider a late model
used car. Melinda Zabritsky, senior
director of automotive finance for
Experian Automotive Credit Agency,
suggests a different tack: “You can get
some fantastic pricing on late model
used cars.”
The average price of a used car is just over $18,000, with many current year rental returns priced thousands less that that. With interest rates so low, you could finance virtually the same car for the same payment with a contract that obligates you for years less. Why go 84 months when you could finance your vehicle for 60 or 48 months, giving you more options in a much shorter amount of time? Might be something to consider!

One of the questions I get asked the most is “how come my credit
score has gone down?” There is no one thing that causes this to happen, and the credit reporting agencies all have their own formulas and algorithms for computing the number, but there are some events that traditionally will negatively effect your score.
Revolving Balances One of the sections of your credit report is entitled “Revolving Accounts”, which are credit cards or credit lines that allow you to pay monthly payments that are not fixed. You can choose to pay a minimum amount or as much as the entire balance each month. You have a limit for each credit account. For example, you may have a total limit of $10,000 for all these revolving accounts.
If you have charged up $5000, then you would have $5000, or 50%, still available. That “percentage available” is a key factor in determining your credit score. People with high credit scores most often will have over 80% still available. This is why it is better to keep credit cards/lines open but at zero or low balances so that you have more remaining availability. This shows the banks you have restraint in using available credit.

Recent Late Payments Accounts that have gone past 30 days late without required payment will show up as a late payment on your credit report. Many people have a few of these, even people with a very good credit score. The longer in the past that these lapses have happened, the less important they are to your current score.
If you got behind, for instance, just last month on a car payment, then it stands to reason banks may not want to loan you more money for a new car
since you were just late. Your credit score will go down which signals to banks that there may have been recent problems.t
InquiriesThere is no hard-and-fast-rule about having your credit run by multiple sources, but usually if you have run it a few times in a current car buying cycle then it shouldn’t cause your score to plummet. But if you have many dealers and banks pull your credit over a six-month period then
this might indicate you have been denied credit more than once. This is a contributing factor or a lower credit score.
Please call me or email me anytime with your credit questions, even if you just need advice for an up-and-coming situation. I would love to help. This is one of the keys to our success: helping people in the short term means long term success. We have been in business over 30 years and so far this thinking has worked!
The Family Care Network is a 501(c)(3) private, nonprofit children and families services provider. Established in 1987 for the purpose of creating family-based treatment programs as an alternative to group home or institutional care for children and youth, the agency, accredited by the California Alliance of Child and Family Services, operates multiple programs designed to strengthen and preserve families and individuals.
By visiting McCarthy’s, you’re helping support the local community. Each month, McCarthy’s spotlights a local charity, and gives money to support their efforts right here on the Central Coast.
