YET ANOTHER SWEEP?: The Dodgers tonight wrap up their three-
game NL-West showdown with the second-place Arizona
Diamondbacks, looking to record their ninth sweep of the season, all of
which have taken place since April 30. Tonight’s contest is also the third
of a six-game homestand (2-0) that closes out the first half of the season.
Los Angeles is a Major-League best 22-4 since June 7 and owns the best
record in the National League at 57-29 (.663), just 1.5 games behind the
Astros for the best record in baseball. The Dodgers are now a season-
high 28 games over .500 and their 4.5-game lead in the NL West is the
club’s largest this year. Starting tomorrow, the Boys in Blue wrap up the
first half with a three-game weekend Interleague tilt against Kansas City.
The Dodgers last swept Arizona Sept. 5-7, 2016 at Dodger
Stadium. With the series victory secured last night, Los
Angeles is 15-6-7 in series this season, including 11-1-3 since
taking three of four from Miami May 18-21.
Los Angeles is a Major-League best 35-11 (.761) at home this
season, outpacing all but the 1953 Dodgers (60-17, .779) for
the best home winning percentage in franchise history. The
Dodgers have won 14 of their last 15 in L.A.
The Dodgers are 5-4 against the Snakes this season and 28-9
(.757) in their last 37 games vs. Arizona at Dodger Stadium.
Since the start of 2014, the Dodgers are 92-40 (.697) against
the National League West, which is easily the best mark by any
MLB team against its own division in that span.
SOURCE: STATS, LLC
The Dodgers are off to their best 86-game start since going 59-
27 in 1974 on their way to the NL pennant.
The Dodgers’ +155 run differential is the best in the Major
Leagues, 13 runs better than the Houston Astros (+142). The
club’s outstanding run differential is among the best in the
history of the game heading to the break:
NL, Best Run Differential Pre All-Star – Since 1933
1944 St. Louis Cardinals^ +159
2017 Los Angeles Dodgers +155
1976 Cincinnati Reds^ +154
1942 Brooklyn Dodgers +151
1975 Cincinnati Reds^ +151
1974 Los Angeles Dodgers +148
The Cardinals and Reds’ teams won the World Series, while
the 1974 Dodgers took home the NL pennant. The 1942 club
won 104 games and finished second to the Cardinals.

MILESTONE WATCH: Chase Utley recently drove in his 998th and
999th career runs and is just one RBI shy of plating 1,000 career runs.
Utley will become just the ninth active player to reach 1,000 RBI.
COMING ON STRONG: Dodger left-hander Rich Hill will make his
12th start of 2017 tonight against the D-Backs as he looks to record his
sixth victory of the season. Hill has gone 7.0 innings in each of his last
two outings and in his last three starts is 2-1 with a 1.89 ERA (4 ER/19.0
IP) and 26 strikeouts against just six walks. During those starts, Hill has
limited the opposition to a .176 average (12-for-68). In six career starts
against Arizona, Hill is 1-3 with a 4.73 ERA (17 ER/32.1 IP), including
a loss on April 16 at Dodger Stadium (3.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R).
Hill has been excellent with runners in scoring position this
year as he is holding batters to a .145 (8-for-55) mark in those
situations, which is the fifth-best mark in the Majors (min. 50
batters faced), behind just Gio Gonzalez (.111), Matt Harvey
(.123), Alex Wood (.125) and Kyle Barraclough (.140).
HISTORICAL BUILDING BLOCKS: On this date in Dodger history,
the cornerstone for Ebbets Field was set in 1912, Leo Durocher became
the first Dodger to manage in the All-Star Game in 1942, Sandy Koufax
made his first big league start in 1955 and Duke Snider had his uniform
No. 4 retired in pre-game ceremonies in 1980.
WITH BATED BREATH: Once again, the morning update from
Major League Baseball brought good news as Dodger third baseman
Justin Turner continued to lead all Final Vote candidates with a
whopping 17.8 million votes. The push to #VoteJT has ended and now
Dodger fans will twitch in anticipation until the winners are announced
on MLB Network and MLB.com at 3 p.m. PT.
After going 1-for-3 with a double and a walk last night, Turner
continues to lead the Majors (min. 200 AB) with a .384 batting
average and a .473 on-base percentage and currently sits with
what would be the fourth highest batting average at the All-
Star Break since 1969, trailing just Larry Walker (.398, 1997),
Tony Gwynn (.394, 1997) and Andres Galarraga (.391, 1993).
A huge debt of gratitude and appreciation go out to the
dedicated members of Dodger fan club Pantone 294, who
pulled an “all-nighter,” and voted for Turner round the clock
in the Dodgers’ #VoteJT campaign headquarters, located
adjacent to the Dodger clubhouse.
The 2017 T-Mobile Home Run Derby, featuring Dodge rookie
of the year candidate Cody Bellinger, will be broadcast live
at 5p.m. Monday on ESPN, Mlb.com, ESPN Deportes and the
ESPN App. The “Esurance All-Star Game will air on FOX
this Tuesday, July 11 and coverage begins at 4:30 p.m. PT.
THE FAB FOUR: Congratulations are in order to the four Dodger All-
Stars: Cody Bellinger, Kenley Jansen, Clayton Kershaw and Corey
Seager. All four were selected via player balloting, with Bellinger
making his first All-Star appearance, Jansen and Seager each making
their second and Kershaw making his seventh. This marks the third time
in the last four years that the Dodgers have had four or more All-Star
representatives (also: 2014 and 2015) and were Turner to win the Final
Vote, it would be the third time in the last 12 years that the club would
have five players participate in the Midsummer Classic (1995 and 2015).
At 21 years, 354 days old, Bellinger, is the youngest position
player to be honored as an All-Star in franchise history
(previous: Seager: 22 years, 69 days) and the third-youngest
Dodger All-Star overall (at the time of their first selection),
behind only Fernando Valenzuela (20 years, 281 days in
1981) and Ralph Branca (21 years, 183 days in 1947).
Bellinger who is tied with Joey Votto for the NL lead in
homers with 24, will represent the Dodgers in the T-Mobile
Home Run Derby this Monday with his father, former big
leaguer Clay, acting as his pitcher.
ONTO THE NEXT DODGER: Dodger manager Dave Roberts
announced yesterday that the Major Leagues’ win leader, Clayton
Kershaw, would start on Sunday vs. Kansas City, making him ineligible
to pitch in Tuesday’s Midsummer Classic. That opens the door for the
best pitcher in 2017, Alex Wood, to join the squad. Last night, Wood
improved to 10-0 on the season, firing 7.0 scoreless innings. Wood is
the first Dodger to start a season 10-0 since Ed Roebuck in 1962 and
becomes the first Dodger starter to start the year 10-0 since Don
Newcombe in 1955. No Dodger pitcher in the modern era (since 1913)
has ever started a season 11-0.
DOC BOBBLE: Tonight, the first 40,000 ticketed fans will receive a
Dave Roberts Manager of the Year Bobblehead, presented by Farmer
John. In honor of his bobble night, Roberts’ daughter, Emme, will sing
the National Anthem and his son, Cole, will throw the pregame
ceremonial first pitch.
