This route explores countryside out fromGananoque, and crisscrosses the GananoqueRiver as it meanders down to the St. LawrenceRiver.
Start from the Cycling hub in Gananoque, near theBeer Store, with parking at the Recreation Centrenearby. Ride east on King St. out past the granitegates to the town, and to and under the overpassto the stop light. Turn right at the light to the pavedshoulder on the left side of this exit ramp from theThousand Islands Parkway. This is a less riskyway to the Thousand Islands Recreational Trailthat parallels the Thousand Islands Parkway.
Enjoy the ride east less than 5 km east to CliffeRd., and turn left. Cliffe Rd. rolls north over Hwy.401 and crosses County Rd. 2 past an abandonedwooden school, and ends at Haig Rd. Turn leftonto Haig Rd. and ride west to where it ends atCounty Rd. 34/Eden Grove Rd., and then turnright. In about 750 metres, turn left on MarbleRock Rd. Winding and rolling along for less than4 km is the Gananoque River.
Stop before you cross the bridge to read the
plaque – this will set you up for the detour ahead.
Over the bridge, take a detour right on the
Gananoque Lake Rd., and in 400 metres at the
sharp bend turn right onto the Old Mill Rd. Shortly,
you’re at the Marble Rock dam where water is
controlled from Gananoque Lake to the power
station in Gananoque. As you saw from the
plaque, there is quite a story behind this site.
Back to the Marble Rock Rd., turn right. In another
200 metres is a parking area for the Marble Rock
Trail of the Cataraqui Region Conservation
Authority. If you’ve the time and hiking shoes, this
rugged trail explores the marvelous terrain of the
Frontenac Arch and was named an Amazing
