The government on Wednesday accorded 'Maharatna' status to Power Grid
Corporation of India Limited.
A statement from PGCIL said that RK Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, New
& Renewable Energy had announced this at its 30th Raising Day Celebrations of the company.The Maharatna status provides enhanced powers to the Board of PowerGrid to facilitate the
expansion of operations, both in domestic as well as global markets, the statement added.

Single-use plastics or disposable plastic
damages the environment and causes
land, water and air pollution. Plastic
does not biodegrade. Instead it slowly
breaks down into smaller pieces of
plastic called microplastics.

Sparsha have been one of the most significant community

Airports�Authority�Planning�to�Monetise�759�Acre�of�Land�
Near�Eight�Major�Airports
The AAI is planning to monetise 759 acres of land near
eight major airports so that private companies are able to establish warehouses, hotels or restaurants, and the money generated i s u t i l i sed to deve lop a i rpo r t infrastructure, a senior official said.
"The AAI has identified the following land parcels of airports for city side development: 145 acres near Kolkata airport, 45 acres near Amritsar airport, Bhubaneswar airport, 35 acres near Jaipur airport, 60 acres near Varanasi airpor t, 217 acres near Lucknow airport, 80 acres near Raipur airport and 117 acres near Tirpuati airport," a senior AAI official clarified.

Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and
Energy Efficiency Services
Limited (EESL), have announced a
new joint venture called Intellismart
Infrastructure Private Limited or ‘IntelliSmart.’ This joint venture has
been formed to implement, finance and operate the smart meter roll-
out program of power distribution companies.
Smart meters will play a transformational role in bringing efficiencies
and generating significant commercial benefits for power distribution
companies, while at the same time empowering end-consumers to
make informed choices regarding power consumption. According to
the company, “Smart meters will lay the foundation for smart grids,
which will be crucial to meet the challenges of the evolving energy mix
and the government of India’s target of providing uninterrupted 24×7
power supply to every Indian.”
Shri Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, EESL, stated, this venture
will support the ambitions of ongoing government programs, such as
UDAY and National Smart Grid Mission.

to meet the production goal, Coal India
officials said. The SECL had also decided
to procure rakes of its own to expedite
supplies of the fuel through the mode of
railways. In 2018-19, SECL had produced
153 million tonne of coal and the new
railway tracks will help coal evacuation
from greenfield and existing mines, the
miner said.

The mine has reserve of around 124 MT of washery grade coal. CCL will also acquire more than 400 acres of land with the mine. The transfer of Bermo mines is expected to boost the coal production.

INCOIS regularly provides information, advisories, ocean data, weather forecasts, potential fishing zones (PFZ) data to beneficiaries l ike fishermen, Indian Navy, marine industries, shipping etc. But due to the limited range of mobile networks and VHFs, the erstwhile information system was not able to communicate disaster warnings to the fishermen if and when they moved away from the coast beyond 10-12 km.

Of the total spending under the CSR
