Dear Parents:
We are excited that the weather is turning warmer and that we will hopefully have your
children exploring, playing and working together around our school playground and field
areas. This term, students have been kept quite busy with extra-curricular events, the
Magnificent Box Project, classroom activities, and other social-emotional learning
opportunities at Lochdale. It is hard to believe there are only two more weeks before the school
closes for Spring Break. Please check out the community office for programs being offered
during these two weeks. Also, summer session, Comshare and Rec N’ Read information will
begin soon in late March/April. We believe that many students will benefit from attending
these learning opportunities so please come talk to the main office or community office once
information has been given out. Also, our registration continues for the fall. If you know you
are moving or know of neighbors seeking registration, have them come by our main office and
talk to Ms. Palmer. Staff were very much appreciative of the wonderful luncheon that the
LCSA hosted in early February. We all wish to thank Leiba and her parent helpers for the
enjoyable lunch.
Our school has now received new phone numbers. Our main line is: 604-296-9019 (press #2
for absence reporting of your child) and the community office extension is 637011 (or
press #5 for community room). Our second term report cards will be distributed in early
April. We will be deciding on student-led conferences very soon as well. FSA results will be
sent home to all grade 4 and 7 students at the end of March. The assessment is only used as a
snapshot of your child’s learning. There are other important measures like daily assessments,
key learning opportunities, and classroom projects. We hope all families take advantage of
spring break opportunities and look forward to spring events at Lochdale in the third term.
Sincerely,
Mr. D. Klarich, Principal

Happy March everyone!!
February has been a productive and enjoyable month! We've had the amazing Science show dazzle us with fireballs and rockets
while the magnificent box projects gave us the opportunity to be creative and share our amazing ideas with our parents and
community despite the snow fall!
We have had Game on and Go girls running at Lochdale this month hosted by our Big Brothers and Big Sisters. It has been a
successful and educational experiences for our students who have embraced the social skills and the information on leading healthy
lifestyles.
Our LCSA has been amazing by hosting Treat Tuesdays and raising school funds to help our school and community flourish. The
Pink shirt day was a great success and the solidarity shown was admirable and powerful. Thank you to the staff, students and parents
who continually support the school and the community initiatives which make us so fortunate.
Also a big thank you to our Burnaby firefighters who continuously donate granola bars, cereal, juice boxes and so much of their time
and resources to help keep our kids safe, strong and secure. We really appreciate your support and generosity!
Coming up after Spring Break, we have a new Science coding after school program and the Garden club will be going on a field trip
which will contribute to the beauty of Burnaby! Also coming up we have Saleema Noon delivering her insightful workshops on
building and maintaining healthy relationships. This is also linked with our Wellness themed events coming up after Spring Break.
The Wellness Fair will be April 6th at Lochdale which will highlight and embrace 4 healthy aspects. Each week
leading up to and after the fair will have a theme embracing and embedding the lessons and importance of
Wellness.
The first week will be healthy relationships with Saleema Noon. The second, learning and practising to self-regulate with yoga
classes. The third will be making healthy nutritional choices with Barb McMahon where her seed classes will help us focus our
attention on good decisions! The final week will be just after Easter where the BC Lions will join us in teaching our students about
being responsible citizens and caring for the environment. Please join us by participating in the home projects which will be sent
home and by attending our Wellness Fair in April.
Thank you for yet another fabulous month! Feel free to visit the community office if you require any help or support...or if you just
fancy saying hi! Have a great March and Spring Break :)
Best wishes,
Shahzyah Juma (604-760-4759)
