“The Living Learning Program provides me with a chance to praise,
acknowledge and celebrate my students’ achievements and successes
in their living environment.”
Students living in the LLP halls will directly benefit from pre-established learning outcomes and programs/services which support and expand upon the student’s academic experience at Cal Poly. The programmatic structure of each of the Living Learning Programs is centered on four emphasis areas: academic development and support, faculty Interaction, career development, and community involvement. Listed below are the goals of the Living Learning Program:
Goals of the Living Learning Program
• To create a living environment that expands upon the academic experience and supports academic excellence.
• To offer an environment that provides for the interaction of students with faculty from each academic college early in the student’s college experience.
• Educate students regarding career options within their academic interests.
• Provide opportunities for increased social support/interaction and active involvement among students with common academic interests.
• Provide opportunities for students to become a lifelong learner by thinking critically and engag-ing in their community.
Dr. Craig Russell, Music Faculty, College of Liberal Arts
Living and Learning at Cal Poly
The Living Learning Program is about more than creating a place for students to live and learn together. It’s about enhancing academic success, making faculty connections, exploring new possibilities and finding support.
This community affords students the opportunity to live with others in their College/major, often sharing the same classes, while participating in activities that center around their academic and social interests.
University Housing and our academic partners are devoted to promoting an atmosphere where learning is integral in all facets of student’s lives. With a residence hall devoted to each undergraduate College at Cal Poly, there’s one that’s created for every Cal Poly freshman student.
