Lesson 10.5AIM: The Game of Pig
DO NOW
What is a strategy?
Give an example from your daily life of how you use strategies.
How to Play
• 1. Pig is a dice game. To play, you need an ordinary six-sided die, labeled 1 to 6.
• 2. Each turn of the game consists of one or more rolls of the die.
• 3. You continue to roll until you decide to stop or until you roll 1. You may choose to stop rolling at anytime.
Scoring
• 1. If you choose to stop rolling before you roll 1, your score for that turn is the sum of all the numbers you rolled on that turn.
• 2. If you roll 1, your turn is over, and your score for that turn is 0.
• 3. Each turn is scored separately.
Examples
• 1. You roll 4, 5, and 2 and decide to stop. Your score for this turn is 11.
• 2. You roll 3, 4, 6, and 1. The turn is over because you rolled 1. Your score for this turn is 0.
Your Assignment
• 1. Play several turns as a whole group. As you play, talk about how you are deciding whether to roll again.
• 2. Split into two smaller groups and play some more.
• 3. List some of the strategies you used.• 4. Use the table to record your scores.
