Physical healthHerbal remedies are dietary supplements
prepared from plants for their therapeutic or medicinal
value. The approach of an herbal remedy is to address the underlying,
core cause of the illness. (Herbal Remedies, n.d.)
Properly extracted properties of herbs can help maintain stability within the body and its organs. To maximise the effects
of Herbs, they go best hand in hand with remedies such as Acupuncture or
Meditation.
Emotional healthMedicine and herbs can change our emotional
reactions that contribute to anxiety, stress and
fears. The use of herbs such as peony, mimosa
and pock root can support our inner transformation.
16
Social healthWhilst many medicines ensure a
persons overall health is in good order, some medicines can have side affects that
leaves a person behaving in a unacceptable social manner.
The use of herbs, such as herbal tea, can relax a person,
relieving many problems, insomnia, upset stomach,
infections.
Mental healthNatural therapies provide alternative options for mental
health.
Ginkgo biloba (derived from leaves of ginkgo trees), can be used for
Alzheimer’s disease and antidepressant-sexually related
problems (Harvard Health Publications: Harvard Medical
School, 2009).
17
Environmental healthIn the twentieth century Environmental
medicine was developed from the researches into allergies and
sensitivities that were closely connected with air pollution and toxicity issues.
The principle of Traditional Chinese Medicine can be used when considering
Environmental Health through:

Physical healthMany people today believe and suggest that
meditation and physical health and longevity go hand in hand. (Hughes, n.d.)
Meditation is commonly used to treat everyday stress and anxiety, as well as
to heal physical ailments and help promote better sleep.
Meditation has many other benefits such as :
- Helps heart disease and boosts your immune system
- Stimulates your parasympathetic nervous system which in-turn relieves
stress and anxiety

Emotional healthTai Chi is a low impact exercise that
combines meditation and deep breathing allowing the flow of energy to create calmness and
overall sense of wellbeing.
Tai Chi can also improve the overall strength and balance, reducing the pain and stiffness, enhancing the level of
immunity and general physiological health.
Social health
Many different cultures have different cultural practices, that involve getting
together, interacting amongst each other, celebrating life in a positive manner.
For many cultures education, income, political stands, Geographic's and language all play a big part in how they participate in social
gatherings.
21
Mental health and Environmental health
Yoga studies suggest that yoga can help reduce stress, anxiety and depression, allowing the spine to be strong and erect, tall and straight, with
the person feeling confident, focused and full of energy (Harvard Health Publications: Harvard Medical School, 2009).
When exercising with yoga a person can take on a holistic approach to a healthier lifestyle.
When your home environment starts to reward you with migraine, allergy and fatigue free days, a persons energy levels can increase.

When looking at the different health sectors within everyday life we face many different obstacles that can affect our health, for
example: foods and medicine.
However these obstacles are more and more discussed, with general practitioners, employers and community organisations promoting
health and wellbeing through programs.
