Learn How To Use the Document Map in Word 2007
What is Document Map?
•The Document Map in Word 2007
brings forth the ease in navigation
through long documents as it allows
you to look around your document
by headings or pages.
1: View Document Map
• Click on View tab
• Select Document Map check box in Show/Hide group
2: Jump to a section quickly• Document Map displays on a pane, left side
• Click on any heading in the outline to jump quickly to that section
3: View as Thumbnails• From the drop-down list at the top of the Document Map pane,
select Thumbnails
• Click on a page to quickly jump to that page
4: Select heading level
• Right-click on Document Map pane
• Select a Show Heading option
• NOTE: To expand or collapse the headings, use the plus and minus signs as shown in the picture.
5: Resize Document Map• Move cursor over the border between pane and document till it
looks like cursor in image below and says ‘Resize’
• Click and hold, and drag to the left or right to narrow or widen
6: Change Document Map outline Format
• Change format by changing Document Map style
• Click Styles dialog box launcher button in the Styles group on Home tab
• Shortcut: Alt + Ctrl + Shift + S
7: Manage Styles
• Click the Manage Styles button at the bottom of the Styles window
• On Edit tab, scroll in ‘Select a style’ until you find ‘Document Map’ style
• Select it and click Modify
Final step 8:
• Select formatting options on Modify Style dialog box
• Use Format button to access more options
• Click OK once finished
• To close the Styles window, click the X button in the upper, right corner of the window
