O Girls surpass boys in fine motor skills-painting, sewing, weaving
O Boys surpass girls in gross muscle-throwing a basketball, kicking football, board jumps
CATEGORIES OF LATE CHIDHOOD SKILLS
O SELF-HELP SKILLS-these skills should not acquire the conscious attention that was necessary in early childhood.
O SOCIAL-HELP SKILLS▪At home- making beds, dusting,
and sweeping▪At school- emptying
wastebaskets and washing chalkboards▪In play group- helping to
construct a tree house or lay out a baseball diamond
O SCHOOL SKILLS▪Develops skills needed in
writing, drawing, painting, clay modeling, dancing, crayoning, sewing, cooking, and woodworking
O PLAY SKILLS▪Learns such skills like throwing
and catching balls, riding a bicycle, skating, and swimming in connection with play.

EMOTIONS AND EMOTIONAL
EXPRESSIONSO They learn that their age-mates regard
temper outburst as babyish, withdrawal reactions to fear as cowardly, and hurting others in jealousy as poor sportsmanship.
O Older children acquire a strong incentive to learn to control the outward expressions of their emotions.

late childhood are pleasant ones.
O Not all emotionality is of a pleasant sort. Numerous outburst of temper occur, and the child suffers from anxiety and feelings of frustration.

well defined and children know how to play them;O Second, games and sports provide a ready outlet for
pent-up emotional energy; andO Third, because of improvement in their skills.

O They discover that they become nervous, tense, and ready to fly off the handle in a temper outburst at the slightest provocation.
O They are said to be in a “bad mood” or in a “bad humor”
SOCIAL GROUPINGS AND SOCIAL BEHAVIOR
OThey are no longer satisfied at home so they want to be with
peers.
OThey become lonely if they are unable to play with peers.
❑ CHARACTERISTIC OF CHILDREN’S GANGS
O Children’s gangs are play groups.O To belong to a gang, a child must be invited.O Members of a gang are of the same sex.O At first gangs consist of three or four
members, but this number increases as children grow older and become interested in sport.
O Boys’ gangs more often engage in socially unacceptable behavior than girls’ gangs.

O Popular gang activities include games and sports, going to the movies, and getting together to talk or eat.
O The gang has a central meeting place, usually away from the watchful eyes of adults.
O Most gangs have insignia of belonging.O The gang leader represents the gang’s ideal and is
superior in most respects to the other members.

OAssociates- consider individuals as their companion but there’s no interaction.
OPlaymates- individuals to whom he engage with the pleasurably activities.
OFriends- have a similar interest.-asking and giving advice.
