Dr.L.CaseyChosewoodistheDirectoroftheOfficeforTotalWorkerHealth®attheNationalInstituteforOccupationalSafetyandHealth,partoftheCentersforDiseaseControlandPrevention.Inthisrole,hepromotestheprotectionandimprovementofthesafety,healthandwell-beingofworkersaroundtheworld.From2004to2009,heservedastheDirectoroftheCDCOfficeofHealthandSafetysafeguardingthe15,000membersoftheCDCworkforceastheyfaced

thenewchallengesofthemodernpublichealthera,includingemerginginfectiousdiseases,bioterrorismandotherglobalhealthchallenges.HisOfficelednumerousCDCworkforceprotectionprograms,includingalloccupationalhealthservices,laboratoryandbiosafetyprograms,environmentalandcomplianceactivities,andworkplacewell-beingandpreventioninitiatives.Beforethis,heservedastheMedicalDirectorofCDC’sthreeoccupationalhealthclinics.Dr.ChosewoodreceivedhismedicaldegreeattheMedicalCollegeofGeorgiaandcompletedhisresidencyinFamilyMedicineattheUniversityofConnecticut.HehasbeenanAssistantProfessorofFamilyandCommunityMedicineatEmoryUniversitySchoolofMedicinesince1997.HereceivedanMPHinHealthPolicyandManagementfromEmoryUniversity’sRollinsSchoolofPublicHealthinMay2014.BeforecomingtoCDC,Dr.ChosewoodwastheMedicalDirectorfortheSoutheasternRegionofLucentTechnologies.

Sinceitsinception,theNIOSHTotalWorkerHealth®Programhasfocusedoninspiringandfast-trackingcredible,high-qualityresearchintopracticalapplicationfororganizations,largeandsmall.Thissessionexaminesthepathtakenbythisinnovativeinitiativetonurtureanemergingfieldofresearch,cultivatebroadinterestandcapacity,andengagepartnershipsforlong-termsustainability. AfterabriefdescriptionoftheTotalWorkerHealth(TWH)conceptandanoverviewoftheTWHnationalresearchagenda,thediscussionwillfocusonsuccessfulstrategiestakenbytheTWHteamrelatedtoresearchcoordination,partnershipdevelopment,in-housepilotsandprograms,traininginitiatives,andworkforcedevelopment/capacitybuilding.Additionalcontentontheearlybenefitsofbranding,useofsocialmediaandothercommunicationstrategiesforadvancingkeyprogramgoalswillalsobehighlighted.
