* The Counting & Cardinality domain focuses on the numbers 0-10 andcounting "one more." While some lessons in My Math show ten frames, make sure to consistently embed the usage of ten frames in all Chapter 2 lessons. Research confirms that counting with ten frames is significantly more effective than exclusively counting real world objects.
*Despite a small amount of Geometry instruction, counting is theoverwhelming skill area addressed in first quarter. While the My Math lessons only cover 0-10, students should practice rote counting as often and as high as possible in order to develop a solid mental number line. The numeral track is a valuable seeting for this work (see the "Suggestion box).

*Counting and Cardinality lessons focus on the numbers 11-19 andcounting by ones to 100. Usage of the numeral track, ten frames, and the classroom number line will continue to support these skills.
Counting and Cardinality lessons focus on comparing numbers and their values.
* Addition within 10 is the main skill in the Operations and Algebraic
Thinking lessons. Consider using the Stages of Early ArithmeticLearning (SEAL) links on the OA page. There is a description of the 6stages and specific activities to use fo students in each stage. SEAL isused to measure addition and subtraction skills. However, for quartertwo addition is the skill that should be exclusively addressed.

* Number & Operations in Base Ten lessons in Ch. 7 focus on placevalue understanding with the numbers 11-19. In Kindergarten, instruction should focus on the additive property of place value and NOT the positional property. Use precise language when teaching Ch. 7 lessons (i.e. 15 is made up of 10 ones and 5 more ones - NOT 15 is made up of one ten and five ones). See the "Suggestion" box for additional activities to focus on this key place value concept.
* Students should now work to count by 10's up to 100. While this is thexpectation, students can continue beyond 100 in order to solidify their mental number line.
**Subtraction is the focus on the Operations & Algebraic Thinkindomain. When teaching the subtraction lessons in Chapter 6, consider embedding strategies used during the first three quarters (to add and count) such as the numeral track and ten frames.
