WEEKENDMASSES(SIGN-UPREQUIRED):Saturdayat4:30p.m.andSundayat8:00a.m.and10:30a.m.
Make plans to attend our first outdoor courtyard concert of the summer on Friday, June 18, at 7:00 p.m. Parishioner Paul Amandes and some of his longtime music friends, including his son, will be our first concert. Paul is a Chicago-based playwright and song writer as well as an accomplished musician. See more information about Paul on page 4 of today’s Arrow. Join us! The feast we celebrate today, Corpus Christi, or the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, was established
by Pope Urban IV in 1264. He did so in response to a reported Eucharistic miracle in the Italian village of Orvieto. As legend has it, the Eucharistic host bled when being offered in the hands of a doubting priest, Father Peter of Prague. This was, in essence, a manifestation of a miraculous presence in the hands of one who doubted the Real Presence. This doubt is still all too common today. Many Catholics have not been catechized well with regard to the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Most of those outside our Catholic Church tradition believe it to be only Christ’s symbolic presence. In 2004, proclaiming it the Year of the Eucharist, Saint Pope John Paul II said, “The Holy Eucharist contains the entire spiritual treasure of the Church, Christ Himself.” He went on to encourage every Catholic to rekindle this Eucharistic amazement. Today’s Feast, the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ is an opportunity for us all to remember, especially at moments of doubt, that the Eucharist is a miracle! Every Eucharist is a miracle. As we share in the Eucharist, we share in the very Real Presence of Jesus and can find strength and courage in his promise, “I am with you always.” Have a blessed, and safe, week ahead. With you a Christian. For you a priest. P.S. With the coming arrival of summer, and our greater re-opening of the parish campus, we are reinstating our practice of summer office hours. The Parish Center will be open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and on Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. As in the church, masks are required by all who visit the Parish Center. Thank you!

CCW WOMEN of the Year With much appreciation, CCW would like to honor the Women of the Parish Office for their outstanding contributions to our community during an especially difficult year and set of circumstances.
These outstanding women, Sharon Bresnahan, Maudette Carr, Linda Czekalski, Emily Davis, Rachel Faulman, Kathy Goetz, Sue Kaszynski, Kathleen Keen, Lauren Locke, Marci Madary, Marrey Picciotti, Zelda Rideaux and Alex Ryan facilitated and fostered connectivity, caring and community through their steadfast support and devotion. Sharing much courage, innovation and dedication during the past year, these women shined brightly with much love and light for our Parishioners. We are so grateful for your time, talents and unwavering efforts this past year on behalf of our entire St. Giles community. To celebrate these Women of the Year, CCW invites you to come together to honor these women at the 8:30 a.m. Parish Mass on Tuesday, June 8!
St. Giles CCW Scholarship – 2021 The recipient of the 2021 St. Giles CCW Annette Henneberry Scholarship is Sarah Falkenholm. This scholarship was established in memory of Annette, a dedicated wife, mother, parishioner, CCW president and friend, who lost her battle with cancer in 2003. Every year, one scholarship worth $4,000 is awarded to an eighth-grade girl who is continuing her education at a Catholic high school. Girls from St. Giles School and the St. Giles Religious Education program participated, each of them submitting a list of their service activities, having a teacher fill out an evaluation, and writing an essay about a person in their life who embodies the spirit of a Christian, and how that has influenced them. The girls wrote about brothers and sisters, grandparents and teachers – all people who positively influenced or affected their lives. While all of this year’s
entries were outstanding, the scholarship review committee found one essay to be exceptional – the essay written by Sarah Falkenholm. Congratulations, Sarah, on being the 2021 recipient of the CCW Annette Henneberry Scholarship.
Courtyard Concert, June 18 at 7:00 p.m. Paul Amandes, Singer-Songwriter, and Friends
Paul Amandes is a music and theatre guy. Besides his professional Theatre work, he’s performed with many folk- and theatre-music stalwarts like Bob Gibson, Michael Smith, Anne Hills, Jamie O'Reilly, Jenny Magnus, Beau O’Reilly, Kristin Lems, and, for 20+ years, he performed in the Irish-and-then-some band: JAMIE O'REILLY AND THE ROGUES. Paul has written music and
scripts for many theatres including Columbia College Chicago where he’s the coordinator of the Playwriting program. Today, he’s pleased to be performing with his long-time musician friends: John Floeter, Jim Lunsford, and his son, Michael Amandes.

Thank You to those who have so generously responded to Fr. Carl’s recent budget letter. Even though we continue to be below budget, the deficit has been significantly decreased. If you have not yet responded, there is still time. Remember, St. Giles could not be here without you! And a reminder about GiveCentral, our online donation service. As you probably know, St. Giles ASP trips were cancelled for the Summers of 2020 and 2021. Many adults and teens who participate in this each year are disappointed not to travel to Appalachia to lend a helping hand to those in need. BUT this summer – we’d like to help those in our own Oak Park and surrounding communities! WHO: Any school-aged teens currently in 8th grade and up, and any adults 18+. Participants would be working outdoors and need to be fully vaccinated. WHAT: Sample projects: Parishioners – St. Giles parishioners can sign up for yard work, painting, outdoor maintenance A House in Austin – build raised garden beds, stain stairs, build a fence, build a tree house Local schools in Chicago and Austin – miscellaneous outdoor projects WHEN: Saturday, July 17, 2021, approximately 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Volunteer for ½ day in the morning, afternoon, or the full day! • Kick-off in St. Giles parking lot with a morning blessing • Head to assigned projects for the day • Return to St. Giles parking lot for group fellowship & fun WHERE: Oak Park, Austin and local communities where St. Giles parishioners live WHY: We know this in our hearts: how good it is to love one another, to care for one another. Although we cannot share our time, treasure, and talents with those in Appalachia this year, we can share God’s gifts locally! HOW: At this time, we need to gauge participation so we know how many projects to schedule. We want this day to happen, but we need your participation. Invite a neighbor, former ASP goer, classmate – anyone who would like to participate in this day of service! PLEASE let us know you’d like to participate – complete this Google form (https://forms.gle/5B6WxaZn2YpFRWjA9), or visit www.stgilesparish.org/youth-ministry/asp or email Frank the participant(s) name(s).
Questions: Please email Frank Hulefeld at [email protected].
