July 2019 e-bulletin
This month we are focusing on
the arts, and getting colourful
and creative during summer.
Just look at what students from Ryburn School made for Calderdale’s Handmade Parade.
The parade took place in Hebden Bridge on Sunday June 30th and featured a fabulous
assortment of colourful costumes and banners.
Every year giant puppets head outdoors, alongside street
bands and performers. Lead the Way went along to take part
in the parade and enjoy the festivities.
Spotlight on…
Lead the Way Art
Group
Since 2014, Lead the Way have successfully been running an art group especially
for people with learning disabilities. The group meets every week to participate in
arts and crafts. As the group is on a drop-in basis, no booking is necessary.
Here are some plant pots we decorated, and sowed seeds
in.
Research has found that actively
engaging in art can help keep you
well, improve the quality of life,
support you to live longer...
...and it’s fun! Here’s what some of our art group regulars
have to say:
I like the art group, it’s good. I really like sewing. I like the other
people and talking a lot.
I like making pinnies...sewing and tacking. I like gluing and sticking.

I like the fact there is a range of activities, something for everyone,
and it’s a friendly group—it’s good for everyone to get out of the
house and meet each other. - support worker.
