This Language Portfolio is your property and is intended for your personal use. It has been
designed to help you improve your language learning techniques. You can use the material
in the Language Portfolio to keep a record of what you learn both inside and outside the
classroom throughout your school life. You can also keep any extra material given to you by
your teacher in this portfolio. It is completely up to you to decide what you keep in the
Language Portfolio.
You may want to keep projects or other written work such as essays, poems or songs in this
portfolio. You might also consider keeping computer diskettes (containing class work or
projects, for example) video cassettes (of your school plays or presentations and so on),
audio cassettes (of your favourite songs. stories, or presentations), pictures, certificates,
report cards from your teachers, and any other materials you wish.
Here is a short presentation of how you can use each section in your Language Portfolio:
I Language Passport
The Language Passport should be used to keep an up-to-date record of your progress in
English. You can include copies of your certificates and diplomas, tests, test results,
progress report cards, self-assessment cards, etc. in this section.
II Language Biography
The Language Biography should be used to keep an up-to-date record of your language
learning which will help you evaluate your objectives and reflect on your learning techniques
and inter-cultural experiences.
III Dossier
In this section you can keep examples of your work to illustrate your language skill,
experience and achievements in English. You can file any work you do, inside or outside the
class, and keep it as a record of your knowledge of the language. This section also contains
prepared material which you can use.
We hope you really enjoy doing these activities.

How to organise your Language Portfolio
You can include in your Language Portfolio almost anything you have produced or collected that
proves your progress in English. We suggest you keep your work in plastic envelopes so that it
remains in good condition.
In practice, your Language Portfolio can be in any shape or size according to the material you
choose to store.
Your Language Portfolio can include any of the following:
I. Language Passport
7
Here you can record all your achievements in the English language. You can include certificates,
diplomas, progress report cards, self-assessment forms, tests, etc. You can include anything that
is proof of your competence in English.
Every time you add something, record it in your Language Passport Chart.

Text messaging using your mobile is the best way to
communicate. It is cheap, discreet and very convenient. I also
love instant messenger. Using emoticons is fun and I like
having the chance to change what I want to say before I
say it! I express myself better when I type my thoughts
than when I say them! Tabitha, 15
I don’t agree with Tabitha’s opinion. I believe that it’s better for people to meet
up and have a chat rather than chatting on the instant messenger. Face-to-face
communication is more sincere and you can always tell what the other person
feels from the expression on their face!David, 14
