    General info

    Since pre-historic times, these islands have been the home of aboriginal tribes. But thefirst settlement by the British took place in 1789, which was later abandoned in 1796.

    The second settlement was basically a penal settlement, taken up in 1858, the year afterthe First War of Indian Independence, followed by the settlement of convicts, somecriminal tribes from Central and United Provinces, refugees from erstwhile East Pakistanand Sri Lanka as well as ex-servicemen

    Day 2 | In Port Blair * Visit Jolly Buoy

After lunch, proceed to the Asia's Best Beach "RadhanagarBeach."Rest of the evening is at leisure for independent activitiesOvernight in hotel.

    Day 4 | Havelock * Visit Elephant Beach

    Today proceed for Half day trip to Elephant Beach for Snorkelling.After breakfast, proceed to half day trip to Elephant Beach for adventurous snorkelling experience. Snorkellingis leisure water sports in which a person swims on the surface of water wearing the face mask and view in theunder water corals. Return to Havelock.     Andaman and Nicobar Islands have an unique culture, where all religions, languages, ethnicgroups live in total peace and harmony and hence it is rightly called Mini India. Port Blair hasa cosmopolitan character where people of all walks of life live together in peace and tranquility.

    All major festivals are celebrated with equal ze al andfervour and attended by all religious groups. Certain fairs and festivals, which are special tothese islands, are:

    Island Tourism FestivalA fortnight long festival organized by the Andaman&NicobarAdministration every year (December - January) gives a festive look to the Islands.Govt. agencies and private entrepreneurs from the islands and Mainland India also attend theexhibition organized during the festival. The exhibition highlights the developmental aspects ofthese islands. Cultural troupes and artistes of national and international fame are invited toperform during the festival apart from performances by the talents of these islands includingtribals. Water sports competitions like Nicobari Hodi race are organized. Other attractions areMagic show, Puppet show, Floating restaurant, Baby show, Dog show, Canoe Race, ScubaDiving etc. The festival projects the image of the islands as an eco-friendly tourist destination.

    Organised in Havelock every year on the birth anniversary of Netaji SubhashChandra Bose. A week long festival filled with cultural programmes.

    Held at Diglipur, this highlights the developments that have taken place in the ruralareas and displays the typical rural life of these islands.

    Comprising of 28 Islands, with an area of 1,841sq.Kms. the Nicobar Islands are separated fromAndamans by the Ten Degree Channel.. TheNicobars abound in coconut-palm, casuarinaand pandanus. Great and Little Nicobar havethe Giant Robber Crab, Monkeys with long tail,

    Nicobarese Pigeons in plenty. Megapode, a rarebird is found in Great Nicobar. Thesouthernmost tip of India is not Kanyakumarias has till recently been considered, it isINDIRA POINT in Great Nicobar Island. Nicobargroup is out of bounds for foreigners atpresent. Indians may be given permission inexceptional cases on application.

    Car Nicobar: (Area 126.9 sq. km., Distance270 kms. by sea)

    A rustling fan, Car Nicobar is the headquartersof Nicobar District. It is a flat fertile islandcovered with cluster of coconut palms and

    enchanting beaches with a roaring sea allaround. The Nicobari huts, built on stilts havingentrance through floor with a wooden, ladder,are unique to this island. 16 hrs. journey bysea from Port Blair.

    Katchal (425 kms. by sea)

    Katchal is a tiny island in the Nicobar group. Itwas this island, which heralded the new

    millennium with the first sunrise on 1st January

    2000. This island has beautiful beaches at Eastbay, Jhula and West bay.

    Great Nicobar (540 kms. by sea)

    The southern end of the Nicobars, this island

    has Indira Point (formerly Pygmallion Point)

    the southern most tip of India. The beach nearGalathia is the nesting ground for GaintLeather Back Turtles. This island also has

    Regular passenger ship services are available toPort Blair from Chennai, Calcutta and Vishakhapatnam and back. There are three tofour sailings every month from Calcutta and Chennai to Port Blair and vice-versa.There is one sailing from Vishakhapatnam in a month. The voyage takes about 50 to
