1.Introduction

Recent own research

Page 5: iPad atlas ver.1.1

The first trial report of “Digital Atlas” by iPad (March.30 2013)

The association of

Japanese Geographer

Page 6: iPad atlas ver.1.1

Three method ①Using PDF and pictures ②Using Google Earth ③ Developing original application “Chizu Burari”

Page 7: iPad atlas ver.1.1

“Digital atlas” is not similar to

“Digital textbook”

Company is developing.

There is no Geography

Page 8: iPad atlas ver.1.1

Creating materials by PC GIS

Study with tablet GIS

Daily use “System”

Page 9: iPad atlas ver.1.1

Maps can be moved from PC to tablet as soon as possible.

<We need a system>

Running in poor communication environment

With small money as much as possible.

Page 10: iPad atlas ver.1.1

Is there such application like a dream?

Page 11: iPad atlas ver.1.1

Here you are!

2 Introduction of an epoch-making application)

Page 14: iPad atlas ver.1.1

Purpose To support the “Stricken area “ by offline digital map-view system.

Page 15: iPad atlas ver.1.1

They opened the system for general user. Everybody can update maps and add information for northern Japanese.

But ,there is no reaction for three months.

Page 16: iPad atlas ver.1.1

The presenter has started to support this applicatin

Tomoaki ITO (2012) 「Shinsai kioku chizu」)

It’s good chance! I went to Sendai city with iPads (23pieces by rental).

It’s Difficult to arrange the excursion!

GIS data and iPad can do!

Present location

Page 31: iPad atlas ver.1.1

We were able to see the geographical features interestingly even if here was an ordinary residential section.

The participant was very glad.

Page 34: iPad atlas ver.1.1

Altitude classification map (made by GIS Software)

Sendai Airport

Page 35: iPad atlas ver.1.1

A gap of a topographical map (it creates before an earthquake) and altitude classification (it corrects after an earthquake) is seen.

Map says 2m high

Latest DEM data says under 0m

Page 36: iPad atlas ver.1.1

Dangerous zone (The place where reorganizing a house was forbidden )

6m

Page 37: iPad atlas ver.1.1

Here is out of border is there safe?

No. so many houses are disappeared Agreement does not consist of residents to reorganize or receive compensation.

Page 38: iPad atlas ver.1.1

Users’ Response

It’s very useful tools! We can change

different maps quickly.

Work in “Off line “ environment is good

Simple GPS using Wifi is not effective.

Page 39: iPad atlas ver.1.1

Users’ Response

It is more better if user can add a new map and information by iPad directly

The story or teaching method is needed.

Page 40: iPad atlas ver.1.1

4 Consideration

Page 41: iPad atlas ver.1.1

“Digital Atlas” For activation of geography education

For development of next-generation teaching materials

It is very promising.

Page 42: iPad atlas ver.1.1

The iPad and Original Application

It is not substitution of the map of

paper, or a personal computer.

This is completely new geography teaching materials.

Page 44: iPad atlas ver.1.1

【Problem】 The machine has not fully spread (Application is free)

Page 46: iPad atlas ver.1.1

【For overcoming①】

To continue the work in Northern Japan

Page 47: iPad atlas ver.1.1

How do we do for a Education for disaster?

How to do? For surface of disaster? 現場の声

Difference of since

Page 48: iPad atlas ver.1.1

Decision making is Good method

Why Sendai City opened This maps at 2013?

Older people gather this town. What is happen next earthquake?

Page 49: iPad atlas ver.1.1

6m

How to use the “no construction area”?

How much costs to recover the town?

Page 50: iPad atlas ver.1.1

【For overcoming②】

Try to another OS The local government

must not permit the tablet’s OS for schools.

Page 51: iPad atlas ver.1.1

We have to wide the “geography education” field

Not only a lecture at classroom. Not only for our yong students

Page 52: iPad atlas ver.1.1

5.Conclusion

Page 56: iPad atlas ver.1.1

It is needed to change teahing method and candidat

It is good idea,]

Geography education For adult Citizens

Page 57: iPad atlas ver.1.1

Tohoku,or northern Japan has big and much data.

! Application for “Tohok

So many data Free to use.

Active teachers’ Meeting.

Nationwide.

After the earthquake

Page 58: iPad atlas ver.1.1
