Forbestresults,pleasereadthefollowingpointscarefullybeforeinstallation.
1- First,theinstallationofacompositedeckisspecificanddiffersfromthatofaconventionaltreatedwoodpatio.
2- Thecompositeboardshouldneverbecut,otherwiseacutwithaprecisioncarbidebladewillbenecessaryandyouwillneedtoapplyatreatedwoodsealertothecutends.
3- Whenpreparinganewdeckand/orreplacinganexistingdeck,thefollowingcriteriamustalwaysberespectedwithoutexception:A)Aminimumdistanceof12’’mustberespectedbetweenthegroundandthesurfaceofyourdeck;B)Freeaircirculationunderyourdeckmustalwaysberespectedtoensureadequateventilationandminimizethewarpingofyourjoistsduetothemoisturecontentofthewood;C)Duetotheclimaticvariations,anadditionalprecautionmustbetakenintoaccountwithregardtotheexpansionandcontractionoftheboards(donotinstalltheboardstooclose,leaveaspaceofabout1/8’’forexpansion);D)Anchorfastenersmustcomefromthemanufacturertoguaranteetheproduct;E)Itisstronglyrecommendedtoinstallalockingclipinthecenterofeachboardtolimitthemovementoftheboardduringthecontractionandexpansion;F)Beforeinstallingcompositeboards,youshouldalwaysinformyourselfofnewtechniquesandtipsfromyourdealer.
4- Asanexample,hereisadeckinstallationaccordingtothemanufacturer’sstandards.First,yourbasewillbetheheartofyoursuccess.Contrarytobeliefs,thecompositewillnotwarp,butitwillratherbethepoorlydriedand/orpoorlyventilatedwoodstructurethatwill.Ifyourstructureismovingorwarpingduetohighhumidityorifitispoorlyventilated,thecompositewillfollowthecurveofthewoodandwillundergoawarpingeffect.Aninstallationonscrewpileswillensurethestabilityofyourstructure.Formaximumventilation,wesuggestyouclosethesidesofyourdeckwithlatticepanels.
5- Weadviseyoutoalwaysstartyourinstallationoftheoutsidepartofyourterraceandfinishalongthehouse.Thereasonisverysimpleandaesthetic:ifyoumustchangethealignmentofthelastboard,itwillbemuchmoreaesthetictodoitonthesideofthehouseratherthanattheendofthepatio.
6- Westronglysuggestthatyoualwaysusefulllengthsboardstoreducejoints.Intheoppositecase,itisimportanttodoublethejoistsonwhichthejointswillbeattached.Itisalsoadvisabletoapplyawaterproofingmembraneonthejoistandonalljoistsofyourprojecttoavoidwaterinfiltrationbetweenjoistsandpreventprematuredeteriorationduetomold.
7- Tomaintainanewlook,werecommendcleaning/maintainingyourdeckinthesamewayasyouwouldwithyourvehicle.Todothis,useamildsoapmixedwithhotwaterandasoft-bristledbrush.Undernocircumstancesshouldyouuseasolvent-basedcleaner.Inwinter,toremovesnowandice,theuseofabrushandde-icingsaltisrecommended.
8- Doublethejoistsandaddawaterproofingmembranewhentherearejoints(foradditionalprotectionaddonalljoists).Eachendofeachboardmusthave2anchorsoneachside.
