Thick or Thin Questions ?
Prepares students to think about their questions. Thick questions leads to forming essential questions or thinking in terms of their main ideas. Thin questions help them find supporting details or evidence.

Biography: Note taking
Excerpt from Knucklehead by Jon Scieszka Chapter 1, page 11
"I grew up in Flint, Michigan, with five brothers- Jim, tom, Gregg, Brain, and What's-His-Name. The youngest one, Oh yea---Jeff.
I'm the second oldest. And the nicest. And the smartest. And the best looking. And the most humble.
My dad, Louis Scieszka, was an elementary-school principal. We didn't go to his school, which was probably good, because being sent to the principal's office would have been weird. But my dad used a lot of his principal skills to run a house with six boys. We had the home version of meetings and rules and schedules."
