- Funkita Photo Competition While training hard in Thredbo, the girls
made the most of their beautifully cold
surroundings by taking a gorgeous photo in
the snow wearing their Funkita cossies.
(Heidi, Emma, Meg, Mari, Maddi, Tarah, Grace & Brianna)
The girls braved the blistering cold at the
top of Mount Kosiosko and managed to take
out 2nd place in the Funkita photo comp.
And while I may be a little bit biased, such
bravery should have won first place!
- Top 25 Age National Rankings The Top 25 Age National rankings have

- Ryde-Carlile Challenge Cup Results
On the 9th of Oct, Ryde-Carlile hosted the
Challenge Cup at SOPAC. Below is a note of
thanks from Karen James:
Hi Everyone
I would like thank you everyone for helping
make this year’s Ryde Carlile Club
Challenge Cup a success. The support of
the Club both in swimmer entries and in
volunteering to assist with the running of
the meet and of our Metro North West
officials was fantastic. We had 95 Ryde
Swimmers (first and second claim) entered.
The meet was also booked to capacity by
visiting clubs selling out 3 weeks after
opening.
We had a large team of volunteers who all
willing gave their time and expertise to
ensure the meet ran smoothly whose
contributions I’d like to recognise and
thank:
Special thanks to Sarah Maguire who sets
up the online meet, processes entries,
prepares the Meet program and Marshalling
documents and gets the Meet and its
results approved, and then on the day was
our Chief Referee and I haven’t mentioned
all the other jobs she does along the way!
Sarah Maguire and Ray Crook also were
very helpful in recruiting the Officials
needed for the Meet – and what a great
team we had enabling the meet to finish 45
minutes early, have a lunch break and run
the Meet without any major hitches.
Thank you to our pool deck Officials and
Announcer – Sarah Maguire, Jose Jalvo,
Terry Anderson, Sue Oehm, Donna
Keith, Henrik Bardrum, Ray Crook &
Mary Wilson for doing a great job
refereeing and starting the races and
Mirella Mulligan, our Announcer, who kept
us all informed throughout the day – across
everything and unflappable!
Thank you to our AOE and Computer team –
Jenny Jalvo, Gloria Wiegmann and Nick
Keith and the Results and Recording team –
Graham Taylor, Alison Wunsch, Suze
Barron, Patrick Southon, Lali Doube-
MacLeod, Pauline Law-Whitting, Terri
McConnell and Paul Mach, who just kept
the meet ticking over – the scoreboard just
kept rolling over and the results churning
out all day – so efficient!
Thank you to our Marshalling & Check
starting Team – Terry Wilson, Jerome
Lagonilla, Ross Atherton, Penny &
Andrew Bursill, Amanda Newton (who also
did our safety checks), Rob Thorpe, and
Sam Pennisi who worked together very
closely throughout the day enabling us to
finish well ahead of our scheduled timeline;
a fine example of teamwork.
Thank you to our Entry Desk team for their
sales skills – Paul, Lisa and Ryan Mach and
David Brooks who collected entry fees,
sold programs and raffle tickets to
supplement our Meet income. Their work
contributed significantly to our meet’s
success.
Thank you to our Catering Team– Kellie
James, Carla Hall and Lauren Wilson who
kept our Officials fed and watered all day.
Thank you also to my Raffle helpers – Penny
Bursill, Carmel Smith, Lauren Wilson and
Maree Brooks for your persistence and
presentation skills and Lisa Shaw for
managing the Raffle Desk and awarding the
prizes. Thank you also to all our Club
members who donated generously to our
hampers.
Thank you to Dennice Perry who organised
the timekeepers’ roster, Kate Chamberlain
for Chief Timekeeping with Dennice and
Suzanne Thorpe who coordinated our team
of timekeepers throughout the day. Thank
you to all our Timekeepers – you are
essential for meet outcomes so we couldn’t
do it without you.
Thanks to Ilze Boyden our Results
Runner, Wawa Lukito and Bridget Auzins
who had the fun job of awarding medals.
The best job on pool deck!
We had enjoyable celebration dinner at the
Bayview Hotel afterwards – thanks to Ray
Crook for organising.
Thank you to our Coaches – Gayle
Camroux, Caroline Woods, Andrew Taufer
and Toby Condon for supporting our Meet
and for their dedication to improving the
swimming performance of our children.
Thank you to all the parents for entering
your children in our Meet. Your support was
fabulous.
To the swimmers – each and every one of
you – I hope you all had an enjoyable and
successful day – that you swam well and had
a good time with your friends. We host
this Meet for the benefit our swimmers
and if our swimmers did that – then for me
our meet was a success.
Finally, if anyone has any suggestions for
improvements for next year’s meet, please
feel free to email me with your ideas.
Regards
Karen James

Congratulations to everyone. Most
impressively, our top 3 highest pointscore
holders were all from our 10yrs girls…
Bella Zhang 172.5 points, Olivia Wunsch
129.5 points and Emme Doube-MacLeod 111
points. How amazing are these girls!
- SMNW Summer Champs Results
Last weekend we had 63 swimmers enter in
SMNW Summer Champs. Our results were
very impressive with the club finishing in
5th place overall pointscore. As our club is
focused on 12&U swimmers, this is a
particularly good result.
Special mention goes to Nathan Gladman
who blitzed the last leg of the boys 10&U
IM relay with a split time of 32.6 which
was a 4 second PB on his entry time in the
50 Fs. Additionally, Emme Doube-MacLeod
swam an awesome 200 back taking 20.52
seconds off her PB and achieving a State
Age qualifying time.
Lastly, well done 9yo Claudia Liu for your
first medal at an interclub meet and 8yo
Hugo Schindler who raced for the first
time at SOPAC and in a 50m pool. You both
should be very proud of your efforts!

- Junior Trip Away
This year our junior swimmers headed off
to the unknown wilderness of Camp Berry
Sport & Rec on a 2-day adventure. Lots of
fun was had by all (even the brave parents
who attended!) and there was plenty of
dirty, wet washing waiting to be unpacked
on the returning journey home…
- Thredbo Swim Camp
The Ryde-Carlile Senior team recently
spent a week long holiday… I mean hard
training camp… in the fresh mountain air of
Thredbo. While in Thredbo, the swimmers
endured twice daily training sessions, brisk
mountain walks and plenty of dry land and
weights sessions to keep them sore and
tired! Yet, in between the long training
sessions, they managed to have a lot of fun
while trying to stay warm and cosy…
- Ursula turns 80! On Sunday the 30th Nov, Ursula reached
an amazing milestone… 80 years young! We
wish you all the best Ursula and we hope
you enjoyed your week long celebrations!
- Technical Official Training Courses
Are you interested in helping the club by
becoming a technical official? Our friday
night races and weekend meets rely on
having officials involved. Without them, the
meets will not be approved and the times
achieved can't be used as qualifying times .
Ryde Carlile needs your help, we need
more technical officials! Particularly an
announcer, marshals and check starters.
If you are interested in becoming
accredited please let Ray Crook know on
0412670605 or [email protected]
- Targeted Meets
Metro Champs and State Age is just around
the corner so please be aware of the
qualifying times and don’t forget to enter.
Metro is now open for entry. If you are
still chasing a qualifying time, your last
chance is at Friday Night Races on the 11th
Nov.
If you have questions about these meets,
please contact Karen James – Race
Secretary Ryde-Carlile Swimming
Club at: [email protected]
