IF YOU GIVE PHIL A COOKIE
by Mommy, Daddy, and Grandma Sue
with apologies to Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond
If you give Phil a cookie,
he’ll want some milk to go with it. So you’ll bring out the milk from the refrigerator.
When he’s finished eating the cookie,
he’ll want another.
And another.
And another.
When they’re all gone, he’ll ask you to make more.
You’ll have to go to the store to get some chocolate chips.
He’ll want to go with you.
When he opens the door and sees that it’s raining,he’ll ask for an umbrella.
The orange dots on the umbrella will remind him
of the orange shorts he wears in the summer.
So he’ll ask for some sunglasses.
He’ll put them on and look outside.
He’ll see Lucy outside in the rain.
He’ll let her in and realize that she needs to be dried off. He’ll ask you for a towel.
You’ll bring him a big white towel. He’ll wrap it around Lucy, but her tail will stick out.
The towel will remind him that he wants to be a ghost for Halloween.
He’ll try it on and shout, “BOO!”
It’ll scare him so much that he’ll knock over a watering can.
So he’ll use the towel to clean up the mess.
He’ll probably want to hang the towel up to dry.
He’ll go into his room to hang it up.
He’ll see his toy farm animals.
Seeing the cow will remind him of milk.
He’ll probably ask
you for some.
And chances are, if you give him the milk, he’ll want a cookie to go with it.
