Introduction
Your Instant Pot Smart comes with an innovative
capability which enables recipe scripts to be written on a
smartphone or tablet, and then uploaded to the cooker
to be executed via the Bluetooth connection.
A recipe script consists of commands executed in
sequence. This guide is about how to write the recipe
scripts on the Instant Pot Smart Cooker app.

3. The available commands show up as a
list, see screenshot on the right. Select a
command, e.g. “Hold the temperature” as
the first cooking task.
4. You can then configure this
task with the parameters of
time, temperature, heating
level, and optionally a
message to be displayed, a
sound when the task starts and
the LED light to turn on. Tap
“Done” on the top-right corner
when finished.

Save your recipe script
5. When a task is added, you can add additional
tasks by tapping “+” on the top-right corner. The new
task will be added to the end of the task list.
Tasks are added in sequence, which is also the
execution order. If you need to delete a task, tap
“Edit” on the top row and remove the task
After adding all the tasks, you can save the recipe
script with a name. This saved script will be shown
in the “DIY Recipes” on the app’s home screen.
Note the “DIY Recipes” section scrolls side ways.

Share your recipe script
6. If your recipe script is a great success and you
want to share the joy with friends, you can tap the
“Share”, see rightmost screenshot. This allows you
email the recipe script to your friends. It attaches a
file with “.cooker” extension. If your friends also has
the “Smart Cooker” app on their mobile device,
trying to open the “.cooker” attachment imports your
recipe script into your friends’ device and they can
now reproduce exactly the same recipe as you
enjoyed.
Note: please do not change the name of the script
which is part of the script.

Command: Pause
11
• This command is to temporarily pause the heating
process for a specified time period. It comes with a
user selected sound alerting the user a cooking
step has completed, and an action is typically
required to the user to intervene, such as adding
food and spices to the pot.
• “Message” is to be displayed on the control panel
LCD. The value to be displayed can be “On”, “hot”,
and a time value depends on if the time is

pressure for the given time period.
• “Message” is to be displayed on the control
panel LCD. The value to be displayed can

Command: Hold the temperature
13
• This command is to heat up the inner pot
to the specified temperature.
• “Message” is to be displayed on the
control panel LCD. The value to be
displayed can be “On”, “hot”, and a time
value depends on if the time is counting up
or down.
• “Duration” specifies how long the heating
will last in terms of hours and minutes.
• The “Temperature” can be from 20°C/68°F
to 100°C/212°F. Please note due to the
fact that the thermal probe is at the bottom
of the inner pot, there may be a variation
of +/-5°C (10°F) to the target temperature
• “Heating Level” indicates a percentage of
the full power used during heating
process.

Calibration
• Due to the fact that the thermal probe of Instant Pot Smart is at
the bottom of the inner pot, the “Hold the temperature” command
may be +/-5°C (10°F) off from the target temperature. Calibration
is necessary to achieve a better accuracy.
• The calibration process is to fill the inner pot with a specific
amount of liquid. If you use “Hold the temperature” command
with a target temperature, say 70°C/158°F, the liquid may be
heated to 73°C/163°F, measured with an external
thermometer. This is 3°C/5°F over your target temperature. You
should then configure your recipe script to a target temperature
of 67°C/153°F to compensate the inaccuracy.
• Once calibrated, for the same amount of liquid, the temperature
can be maintained consistently between uses at the target
temperature with an accuracy of +/- 1°C(2°F).

Sous Vide cooking
• Sous-vide is a method of cooking food sealed in
airtight plastic bags in a water bath. By using the
Smart Cooker app, you can program your Instant Pot
Smart to maintain the water in the inner pot at a
specified temperature.
• Please calibrate your sous vide script following the
process in the previous page.
• Due to the less accuracy in the temperature control,
Instant Pot Smart is best used for sous vide cooking
food materials less sensitive to temperature
variations, such as eggs, meat and vegetables. It’s a
challenge to sous vide cooking fish in the cooker.

Use Case: Keep Warm after Cooking
• If you want to keep the food
warm after cooking, you can
add the "Hold the
temperature" command at
70°C/158°F (or other
temperature of your choice)
to keep the food warm for a
specified period of time.
